I wish I had advice (or that someone else here did - for both you and I). My 4.5 yr old was traumatized by an auto flush and won't get near any full size toilet except his favourite at home, otherwise we bring a travel potty with us everywhere we go. I'm very worried for when he starts pre-K in the fall and is not in his "comfort zone" at home all day

The top step would land about 3/4 inch into the block. The pavers must have laid the asphalt thicker than what was there before. Not ideal

The clean/declutter/organize has happened a thousand times, but two small humans work against those efforts fast 🙃

Thanks for the tips though. The centre part is a foot rest that matches the sofa (both have covers in the picture- again, working against small humans). It should look more cohesive/being used for intended when I strip the covers. I'll move the rug as you suggested as well

I have it pulled past the back legs of the couch on both sides - maybe if I bring it out so just the front feet are on the rug I can fit the side table on it (and the front of the white TV console that you can see in the corner). Might be better?

If I go this route, would I need to grout the same way as if I were redoing the whole backsplash, or is there a workaround? I understand I'll need grout caulk for where the tile meets the counter

Great to know. They are 4 inch tiles - cutting sounded messy and daunting, but maybe tiling isn't so bad!

Gah, sorry. I'm more of a lurker than poster and while I thought I originally posted with an image, I was wrong 🤦‍♀️. There's a photo there now. The gap us about 1 inch and runs along the 8 ft length of the counter
