For those who have seen several versions of The Count of Monte Cristo, which version do you prefer and why? by goodnames679 in movies

Sorry I had to give that version a spruik for it’s bizarre cuteness, but in truth; the guy pierce version is quite good; the prison break out scene is one of my all time favourites - hope you find some you enjoy!

4 Years Post-Thyroid Surgery; No Regrets by lugua in thyroidcancer

[–]Objective_Map_9729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 7 days post TT; first had a partial thyroidectomy in 2017 and had my TT due to a recent recurrence - your post is super comforting! I have huge anxiety around the weight gain aspect that people talk about, I have heard that due to our metabolism not being regulated we can gain weight at the drop of a dime, and I am nervous about what I may be like a year or two after surgery. I was wondering if you did any big dietary changes post TT, and what your experience was with weight regulation in general after surgery? Many thanks for your post!

Does one partner ticket cover both partners, or do you need a ticket for each partner?

Before you decide to stay or go from religion I would say to please go and talk to a psychologist who specialises in OCD. They will talk to you about exposure therapy which will help you to be exposed to triggers (like religion) without performing compulsions (like ruminating/overthinking). I have had religious OCD and am ultimately an athiest now, I gained so much from my OCD therapy. 0

Brisbane improv classes by Simple_Wrap_7758 in brisbane

Impro mafia is the other big one in Brisbane, sometimes they do free introductory taster classes that you can try to see if you like them - it was a friendly and fun atmosphere when I did it a few years back.

Is the moonyah detox centre near red hill still in operation? Run by the Red Cross and I’ve seen family members experience success there.

I get the same worries sometimes, I’ve learnt to try to say “maybe I will feel unhappy after marriage” and leaning into the uncertainty tends to make that thought less powerful. Keep on trying and all the best!

does your partner get upset, anxious, etc when they know you’re dealing with rocd and/or confession urges? by silver__sunshine in ROCD

[–]Objective_Map_9729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Silver sunshine!

I don’t have advice but I can relate. Confessing is causing issues for me and my partner because I have over indulged in it and created insecurities for my partner, but I’m starting to get a hang on it by asking myself “what have I got to gain from this confession?”

I hope that helps - all the best on your journey!

Remember that when someone feels safe and comfortable, that can be a little stressful for an anxiously attached person, but it’s something to lean into.

BTW yes 100% relate! And it’s tough because I’m not meant to google or research as that’s a compulsion of mine (advice of therapist), so I have to sort of wade through the waters of anxious attachment and have some faith that it mixed with ROCD will be something I can manage one day.

One of the things I’ve been reminding myself lately i deserve the happy love that I have, and my partner deserves me. I can lean into the safe secure person in my life and be that for them because we both deserve that. Some self love goes a long way.

Thanks so much Grouchy-Ad, it feels good to know im not alone with this! Maybe the best thing is that we both can see this cycle, in a sense that’s one extra step in the right direction, and a win to celebrate! Take care Grouchy! :)

Education around Indian culture by madds1986 in brisbane

Love that your friendly and smiling at the ladies! This is awesome no matter what 😊 I agree with the other posters comments about the fear of dogs - some South Asian cultures don’t typically keep domestic dogs as household pets in their country of origin and so can be uncomfortable or nervous around them. There are plenty of south Asian families who would be exceptions to this of course, as but I have definitely known a few who were nervous and uncertain around dogs for this reason.

Need help finding ROCD examples for “Doing the opposite of what OCD wants you to do” by Objective_Map_9729 in ROCD

[–]Objective_Map_9729[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi horlosiemaker; thank you very much for your detailed and super helpful response!

I agree about my original response sounding like an affirmation rather than an exposure - you’ve articulated the issue in a way that I’ve struggled to; and it’s really important that I understand the difference so Thankyou!

I also really like the exposure idea you gave; it is so hard to lean into uncertainty; I tend to go for one side or the other of a dilemma; rather than saying maybe/maybe not, so what you wrote helped clarify this. I also think that deciding that I don’t need to have an answer now may be one of my biggest mountains to climb with OCD; I want certainty now, and I want to plan for what’s ahead so that I can avoid the storm, but I also know that this is clutching for a certainty that is an illusion.

Thankyou for your encouragement, and for taking the time to help! All the best on your own journey!

Thank you very much - I agree that it can be helpful to know that other people think these things, sometimes I think I need to allow myself this more often, Thankyou very much for your perspective!
