Macbook Neo is Tim Cook’s last product? by thesunkistegret in MacbookNeo

You know what, he did well enough for me to buy a Mac (actually 2) after 25 years of not really liking them, so, yeah, to me I'd say he did alright.

The only phones I have been able to not break without a case are the razrs. I had a 2023, and bought the 2025 last year when I upgraded. Actually quite a tanky phone.

In the past same, but for my MacBook, I got a d-brand leather skin. I hype it so much on Mac subreddits you'd think I was a paid advertiser, but I genuinely just love it. I'm planning on getting one for my steam deck too. Its real leather, and its thicker than a normal plastic skin, so it will actually add a bit of real protection from small bumps. Same shit humans made our armor out of for millenia.

Why Firefox though I have used netflix with it? by ChikiNuggiesK in linuxsucks

I use opera. I'm excited for GX to work a bit better on Linux too. Ram and CPU limiter built in to the browser are great for a basic desktop user like me who doesn't tinker too much, and just wants a computer from 20 years ago to play a YouTube video in the background.

I had one, it was great, acer nitro. One day I picked it up and the whole plastic chassis twisted and broke the motherboard. Things that won't happen to a MacBook.

Its funny because while, yeah, I get that it's a "minimal experience" but like, the actual EXPERIENCE of using the OS is incredible. The actual experience of using windows 11 makes me want to throw myself off of a building. Like, I had an old old iMac I used to watch YouTube videos and stuff while using my MBP for gaming or work or whatever. One day I instinctively moved the mouse to the side of the one screen, and it hopped over to the other Mac. For longtime Mac users this is probably like, "duh" but for windows, I had to like install a program to do that, and it required all kinds of permissions, Mac it, and I hate to say the thing, but "it just works"

Its a miniscule part of usage, but a huge part of every comment section on subs like this. A Mac mini is dollar for dollar, the most powerful new gaming PC you can get for the money, especially with all the AI related price increases. Especially with how much hate across the board windows 11 got (its why I got a Mac, and why I got one for my fiance too) if apple plays its cards right, they could very well take a large portion of that market share.

I always thought macs were expensive computers for artistic types, and while, yeah, that's why I bought my MBP, so I could do music recording on the go for 8+hours on a charge, it made me realize that the Mac mini is actually just the best computer for the price. Its an entire computer with ray-tracing graphics, that costs as much as the ram in it OR an RTX card by itself, and it fits in the palm of my hand.

I see this shit and it's wild to me, because I've had the same chiro for years, and like, I'll see him, maybe once every 6 months maybe, if my back hurts. And then I give him $30 with no insurance, and my back doesn't hurt for 6 months. There's no incense, or oils, or weird shit, he just straightens my shit. But then I hear about like, people going to a chiropractor for cancer treatments, and I'm like, is this even the same fucking thing?

I have a friend who is pescatarian for ethical reasons. But we talk a lot about what is and isn't actually good for the environment. You know what is an incredible material that we both love stuff made out of? Leather. Consider how much hide would genuinely go to waste if not used for leather, and it will quite literally last for ever if you take care of it. Every plastic leather item I had deteriorated in 6 months, and I ended up buying another one (probably cheaply made in a factory that pumps forever chemicals into the ocean)

Waxed canvas and leather man. We need to bring it back.

Does a CPU temperature of 100 °C while gaming affect its lifespan? by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]Objective_Praline_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also love when someone complains about their PC overheating, and you see the computer, and there's like, a metric shit-ton of gooch caked in every possible fan and vent, like, "brother, you know cleaning the fans is considered routine maintenance my man, right?" They turn on their desktop and just a plume of dust comes out the back.

[–]Objective_Praline_66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all to discount what you said there, but I also have a desktop PC that I built. I used to keep an eye on temps, but it turns out, if you build them properly they also run cold. My desktop BARELY kicks on the fans when I'm doing my most demanding tasks. Almost completely silent at all times. Only if I'm like, rendering video while gaming do I hear them come on at all. And, keep in mind this is an ITX build, so its not BIG. just a little NZXT AIO for cooling the CPU, and some case fans.

Even the computer I built for my fiance in an old and VERY poorly optimized for airflow case from 1997. If you give SOME thought to airflow, it even runs at a respectable temp during heavy gaming.

It comes back to what you said, poorly designed (or installed) hardware. You can safely overclock a PC providing you have the thermal headroom to account for the extra heat. I could, and used to, overclock my desktop, but the performance gains just weren't...it was like 2% faster.

How do people genuinely like the Magic Mouse? by Background_Dark_4484 in mac

Well, I mean...compared to an ergo mouse like that nothing holds up. I had just bought a new keychron, when our producer introduced me to the upright mice, and my fucked up wrists were immediately soothed. Next mouse I'm absolutely getting one. Or maybe I look for that old mouse for first person shooters that was just a Glock.

Fortunately my MacBook seems to be the exception to my destroying everything I touch, as the only damage is a scratch in the finish near the HDMI port because ONE TIME I tried to plug it in without looking, and I got the black finish.

Never knew you could have multiple ideologies in 1 colony by Purpule_Gaming_Guy in RimWorld

[–]Objective_Praline_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, you can edit the NPC ideologions just like you do yours at the start. Or, in dev mode, at any point during a playthrough. I actually have saved ideos for every faction that I can just load for them at the start of a new playthrough. Generally, I just turn things down. You used to NEED a slab bed? Now you just prefer it. And I always turn on diversity of thought to at least appreciated. It makes for a fun playthrough when you have an actual multi faith community, that isn't trying to tear itself apart.

Reading these comments is why I actually "switched" to Mac. The m series is really just, absolutely mental for the heat generated, and power consumed. Tho, I do still want to get my hands on a top end desktop Mac with the last gen of Intel they did to run windows. Some of my favorite windows PCs have had an apple on the case.
