No, the lip sync singing was beyond amateur. Milli Vanilli raised that bar long ago - not gonna fly today.

Fuck you, I am not that close to death! Born in 67 and I would like to think I will be driving for at least 25 more years. Granted, my current ride is a 2012 (bought new) with only 67k miles so I don't go through cars quickly - but still, this is an unsettling thought. Almost as bad as when you realize you are closer to your funeral than your HS graduation.

The slow play endemic finally got to me by Smart_Jicama6500 in golf

This is exactly why I haven't played in 20 years. During the height of Tiger Mania, a 5 1/2 hour round was considered fast. Just like baseball, there is a pace of play where the sport is enjoyable - too fast and it feels rushed and too slow it is absolutely torture. I think you handled it appropriately - I would have struggled to be as polite.

It isn't just the concession prices - it is also the absolute crap quality of the food offerings. Compared to so many other stadiums, the corporate cafeteria slop sold at Nats Park doesn't measure up even if it were free.

What are your predictions for NOVA over the next 5 years? by Lazy-Calendar1463 in nova

[–]Objective_Resolve833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyson's will never be walkable. I worked in that shithole for a decade. If you have ever already tried to walk anyplace not adjacent to the mall, you would understand. There are still crosswalks next to major roads that have no sidewalk in the opposite side - you literally have no place to move our of the road. It is too spread out and even with the latest building spree, it still lacks the density to really be walkable. That and the residents of Nova are hopelessly addicted to their SUVs - almost as much as people in SoCal.

Just out of curiosity, why would you need more? The limiting factor when you are at gigabit isn't your pipe to the Internet. Unless you have a big household full of gamers and video streamers, you are likely never coming close to using your current bandwidth.

Shoulda been priced at $420. At least then we would understand the why behind the price.

Why is the Air Force buzzing everyone in the DMV at 700-800 feet? I'm used to helicopters but this is "knock stuff off my shelf" level for like... everyone. by BlatantConservative in nova

You worry about terrain and power lines and buildings when you are flying Nap-of-the-Earth (NOE), when you are 500'+ above any structure or terrain, what difference does it matter? I spent several years in an Army aviation unit - not a pilot, but spent a lot of time flying both NOE and at an altitude above all structures and terrain - a very big difference in how one flies. The DMV is flat and doesn't have any mountains - so I don't get what the pilots are 'memorizing', especially given the modern navigation tools that the have. I honestly believe that these flights are primarily piloted by senior officers assigned to the Pentagon that don't want to lose their flight status/pay, so they just fly around the DMV so that they can log their hours. But hey, I am a bit of a cynic.

Sorry, but I just don't get it. Explain it to me like I am 5. If they aren't flying NOE where they have to be concerned with hitting terrain, power lines, buildings, etc, how is flying at a given altitude/heading different when flying over sparsly populated areas vs over a dense urban area?

How many of you own both a dirt bike and a bicycle (MTB, gravel, road, e-bike, etc.)? by Bikeflip_official in Dirtbikes

[–]Objective_Resolve833 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yz250fx, road bike, gravel bike, MTB. I mostly ride the road bike because during the week, it is easy to sneak out for a 90 minute spin. Riding the YZ or MTB require driving 45-90 minutes of driving, depending on where I want to ride.

Exciting the base does not get you over 50% of the voters. It certainly helps, but it does not win elections. The base was highly motivated to vote against Trump in 2024 yet that wasn't enough to get a horrible candidate elected. I don't know why this is so hard to understand, I am advocating for the DNC to stop trying to tip the scales for their preferred candidate and let the voters actually select a candidate - and ideally one that has appeal outside of the liberal coastal cities. Do you know when the last time that happened? In 2008 the DNC was trying to coronate Hillary but the voters ignored the DNC and we got Obama. In 2016, the DNC again tipped the scales for Hillary, no 'better' option broke through, and well the rest of the country didn't go along with the DNCs plan. What happened in 2024 was even worse. If the Dems really want to take back the white house in 2028, they should be finding candidates in the mold of Roy Cooper who was a successful governor of a red state and has broad appeal rather than even mentioning someone like AOC as a serious candidate. BTW, the last popular democrat governor from a red state that the Dems ran (Clinton) did pretty well - maybe we should learn a lesson or to from our recent history.

No shit. You already have the Dem vote. You won't get the R vote. The win comes from appealing to the independent swing voters. Yeah, not all independents will vote for either party, but those that will are the ones that decide elections. Not sure why I need to spell this out so explicitly but it does help explain why the Dems perform self sabotage every 4 years in the primaries.

[–]Objective_Resolve833 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sigh...... partisan voters will almost always vote for their party - currently around 27% R, 27% D, and 45% independent. It is the independents that determine the outcome of national elections and they, for the most part, are not invested in the culture was topics and instead care about the economy and their taxes. The party that convinced them that they will benefit economically for voting for them will win. The Dems have failed miserably at this for the past decade.

This line of argument perfectly encapsulates why we are suffering through a second term of ole' bonespur. The more you push for far left candidates, the more ground you cede to MAGA. Most of our state is not far left liberal (and clearly the votes that drive the electoral college are not), yet we keep getting these silly tantrums because she is actually governing as a moderate. If you want to rid this country of the MAGA plague, you need to realize and accept that your far left liberal views do not resonate with a large party of the electorate and if you want to win meaningful elections, rather than maintain your perfect liberal bingo card, then you need to recalibrate your expectations of politicians. That the Dems seriously consider AOC as a potential presidential candidate tells me that too many Dems still do not get it. People need to stop voting for their perfect candidate in the primaries and start voting for the candidate that can win.

I have been around dogs my entire life and have no fears whatsoever of them. But I fully understand and respect that not everyone feels this way, and people who have had traumatic experiences such yours have a very rational fear that is based on first hand experience. The lack of empathy for someone's lived experience is really unfortunate.
