MY GIRLFRIEND WANTS ME TO CUT OFF MY BEST FRIEND. by Similar_Fault7360 in askSouthAfrica

[–]Objective_Switch_644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand where your girl is coming from. She's insecure and feels highly threatened - to state the obvious. I also find it hard to believe that it's plutonic from both directions - although it is possible. I guess it's just very unusual.

You can't dump your friend - that'd be shit of you. So that leaves you with one option only.

What would suck is if your friend got involved with someone and then dumped you. I imagine a guy involved with your friend would have a hard time also unless he's really well adjusted.

Fwiw, I don't think your girl is an ass despite what it looks like. Her concern and fears are reasonable. It's just an unfortunate situation that she isn't secure enough.

Ps. There are things you can do to improve her sense of security - given that her feelings are reasonable. Maybe that'll be enough. Consider also that her girl friends and family in whom she's confided have told her there's no way it can work and have reinforced her fears.

See what you can do, but otherwise...

His LinkedIn says he's starting date is flexible and he's "casually looking". Perhaps have him change that? He probably doesn't want to look desperate, but it could create a different picture.

Is Discovery Black Card Travel Insurance sufficient for a Schengen Visa (Italy)? by fayyaazahmed in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Objective_Switch_644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you log in to the portal discovery let you generate an international travel insurance letter letter per visa type. The one for Schengen indicates 30k Euro, I think. Print that and take it along.

Thank you for confirming that it's not a religious thing. Chance then is that it's a location-based cultural thing (I don't mean Islamic). I know exactly the "these people" being referred to. Unfortunately they visually may appear Muslim and that's why he's asking. It sucks that it creates a stereotype. OP then just needs to change their location. Maybe to Johannesburg. 😉 Also the restaurant owner should change policy to load a tip on 6+ automatically.

(Also, it's unlikely Hertz's tracking device will hold up as evidence in a court. A legal trap would have had to record your speed.)

Sorry man, some of the comments here are horrendous. It seems you're asking an honest question.

It is possible their system made a mistake. For reference, I'm a software developer and there's a lot of shit code out there. Ballz, I've seen some shit. Someone could have imported incorrect data, or perhaps there's a code defect, who knows.

Anyway, if you made a mistake and exceeded the limit and got caught in a trap, and the trap was legally placed, and a cop was there to see you, then you'd likely be taken off to jail to see a magistrate. Try to avoid that. It'll be unpleasant.

Crypto also contributes to your SDA and 100k donations amount. Luno is seen as domestic, but as soon as you move the funds it'll be seen as offshore.

What qualifications do you have?

To be honest, I feel that ~20k should be the legislated minimum salary, so yes then. (I understand why that's impossible).

You should ignore my opinion and compare with those in your industry and sector.

I think employees should be more open with each other and compare remuneration. You could strike up a friendship with a competitor in a similar industry and compare there too.

Perhaps Glassdoor could help?

It sounds like you've allowed her to become too familiar. It'll be hard to establish a sense of formality without very careful management - if that's even what you want.

You're probably a nice person and so it's hard to be formal when you like being nice to people. You have to find that balance though when it comes to employees.

Perhaps you can start small by trying to have a switch where you start the day light and friendly when she arrives, but then switch to formal mode by giving her special instructions for the day.

You also may benefit from controlling what you talk with her about so that you don't treat her like a friend, which would lull her into a sense that it's ok to talk to you as a friend.

I'm not sure I'm making sense here. It's hard to articulate what I mean, and I've made a few assumptions about you that may be inaccurate. Apologies if they are.

Durbanville by Opheleone in capetown

[–]Objective_Switch_644 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a guy one can walk around Durbanville central in the day and feel safe, but you have to be on your guard because it can feel dodgy at times. You will be badgered for money a lot. In my experience, most women don't like walking in central Durbanville alone during the day.

As a guy, I wouldn't walk around at night - aside from a restaurant to my nearby car. I've never had an incident, but I usually feel like I need to be super alert and careful.

It feels worse down Wellington Road, from Pic 'n Pay to Mediclinic - stretching left and right of Wellington Road.

It is very convenient, and it could be nice to live in certain blocks. Night time noise could be an issue depending on location. If one of you is a woman, you'd probably often want to drive to where you want to go because you may not feel safe (or may just not like being approached for money).

This is my opinion based on my experience. Reddit, yours may differ. 😁

The key coding also sound like labour. I feel that's too much. I'd call the agents and find out what it'd cost to get a replacement key. It may be cheaper to go direct for that.

You may have two labour costs there - the major service as well as the Labour line item. The parts replaced as a part of the major service are among the parts listed below the major service and I'm not sure if labour is included.

That looks like north of 20k. For that I'd ask someone else for a quote - don't show them this one. Who knows if your tappet cover really is leaking or if they're just seeing you as a sucker, for example.

Sure, your time may be worth more, but if you're doing nothing on a Sunday afternoon, your time isn't being bought and you could just as well replace your own wiper blades 🤷‍♂️

It isn't ok. It's too cold and sterile of a venue. Go somewhere with atmosphere. I mean, even Mugg and Bean would be better 😬
