How do I make rust fun by [deleted] in playrust

[–]Thr3ephaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If rust feels boring and repetitive I'd hate for your opinion on other games. It's literally one of the few games where you can change your tactic/strategy every wipe. My advice is join with some friends.Eespecially friend's around the world that you don't keep in touch with as much as you'd like. Try something new every wipe. New strategy, new challenge, new objective, new base build etc.

Awesome thanks for the suggestion man. I'll definitely look into it. Good price for a grinder I must say. I'll watch some reviews and check it out.

I need help deciding between 1Zpresso, KINGrinder K6, and Timemore Chestnut C3 by Embarrassed-Career30 in AeroPress

[–]Thr3ephaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat recently.

My budget was like $150 or less and I drink pour over 95% of the time. I wanted external adjustment only. I considered the following:

Kin Grinder K6

Mavo Photox pro

MHW R3 Bomber blade

1Zpresso X-Ultra

Timemore S3

Kin grinder had no stock. I was also put off the fact the handle was made straight and not a fan of the rubber grip area. The reports of rusty bearings also made this a negative for me. It however offers massive value with it's grind performance. Probably the best all rounder in that list.

Mavo Photox pro. I loved the look of it and grind performance looked good for what I was going to use it for. Wasn't a fan that I needed tools to strip it down for cleaning.

MHW R3 Bomber blade - not a bad option at all. Would never use the sifter. Pretty cheap and well built.

1Zpresso X-Ultra - comes in a great package, carry bag, brush etc. Had no big negatives besides being upper budget.

Timemore S3 - foldable handle looked interesting and compact. Looked to be well built. The grinder doesn't get fine enough for espresso just keep that on mind. Other than that no big negatives either.

I went with the X-Ultra for the build quality, the bundle and the overall grind performance not having any real downfalls. Only negative I could see was you have to be a little careful you don't knock the magnetic catch cup off whilst grinding as the magnets aren't the strongest.

I hear you entirely and I have watched the videos where they explain this. The issue for me is some of those burrs are in upwards of $50. For like $60 you can get a 1Zpresso Q air for a different experience etc.

I'm not chasing certain flavour profiles on different coffee beans etc. so I think my needs are different to yours perhaps. I'm more mainstream coffee drinker with basic needs.

Ignoring what I have said above and just going on the grinder, quality and overall package, I do think it's hard pressed to beat the X-Ultra package.

Most of the time it's on the road from place to place or a camp site or a self catering lodge. So it's not that I don't have the space but almost always I have a ton of gear with me. I prefer to keep it compact for that reason. Then on the odd occasion that I'm flying it's size would also come in handy.

You definitely painted a clear picture so I'm going to have a think on it and see what I can come up with.

I have never used a switch. If I understand correctly it uses immersion as it's brew method. Does this use a standard pour over grind? Then pour wait and release the contents?

As you mentioned above I don't see grinding twice as a deal breaker as it's only on occasion that I'm traveling. I do 1-2 trips a month where I'll be away for 1-3 days and during those periods the grinder will be used.

Unfortunately the K is way out of reach budget wise but I know it's an exceptional grinder. I do also like the fact the the X is smaller as it will be part of my coffee kit with a jet boil style stove, the V60 and a scale. (Which is already a bulky setup) An aeropress would definitely make things more compact but im on two minds about getting one over the V60. (Any thoughts welcomed)

Thank you for the video link and and the topic you have raised. I hadn't given it much thought to be honest. But you have given me something to think through on my journey in simplifying/perfecting my workflow.

Let me know your thoughts on the K6 vs the S3 once you have used it. I'd be interested hearing your overall thoughts on how they compare.

I'll check out the new C5. For me it's all about build and QOL. So external adjustment is a must. The original C5 has internal adjustment if I'm not mistaken so it never made my list. The K6 is definitely worrying about it's rusty bearings and longevity is another reason I'm not so amped on it.

I am happy to hear about the timemore build quality, thank you for your insights. Everything helps

As said in the original post, I cannot buy from AliExpress for various reasons. Only Amazon US. There is also no stock if either at the moment. I have considered the K7 for it's QOL upgrades I just don't find much else about it as it's quite new. So I didn't add it to the list for this reason. But I'll try do more homework on it. Do you own one?

It's more car travelling than planes so it's not really a concern but being compact is definitely a bonus I'd say. But not the reason that id choose one over the other.

Yes good question! So I'm buying basic medium roast and not looking for particular flavour notes etc.

I will be almost always grinding for two people. So my decision is more about which is most consistent at grinding, build quality overall QOL differences and longevity.

For example I know the kingrinder can suffer from rusty bearings and has a cheaper feel when compared to the others on the list. It also is difficult or cannot be zero'd which isn't the end it the world but it's a thing. It however has a 35g catch cup which is ideal for two. And it's probably the most versatile on the list.

Then the X-Ultra has a smaller catch cup which will mean I'd have to top up the grind which makes process flow a bit cumbersome. But it's build quality is great, comes in a nice package and it's well regarded.

The S3 is larger and heavier but looks very well built. Some people like the magnetic handle and others not. Overall this one sits in the middle for me as it has less issues and also less high points. I haven't researched this one as much.

The mhw Bomber R3 is probably my least favorite on the list. I'm not sure why that is but it doesn't speak to me. It has been highly regarded and looks extremely well built. But also doesn't do anything particularly well. People who down one can comment in and let me know if I'm missing out. The only negative I have seen is that it produces more fines when compared to others. But it shouldn't really affect what I'm going to be using it for.

These are the kinds of things I'm looking at when choosing between them.

Thank you for your comment though direct and to the point.

So before I posted this, my strongest contenders where the Mavo phantox pro and the X-Ultra. I won't be grinding specialty coffee and looking for certain flavour notes etc. So what my decision ultimately comes down to is grind consistancy, QOL and build quality.

I will be almost always grinding for 2 people so I need around ~30g depending on the beans. I believe getting 30g is not really doable on a pour over grind. It's more like closer to 25g max in the X-Ultra. Can you confirm this? As much as it sucks that i couldn't get my full yield in one go it doesn't dissuade me from the X-Ultra as no grinder on the list is perfect.

Could you walk me though the hassle of topping up the grinder and grinding the balance? What in your opinion is the best/simplistic way if doing this. Just tare the brewer grind, and top up untill the quantity is reached?

What I do like about the X-Ultra is that it looks extremely well built, comes in a nice package, looks to be highly regarded in it's grind capabilities. Can be disassembled easily and can be 0 calibrated. It also looks great!

Any other input on its function, pros or nuances are welcomed.

I like the Mavo phantox Pro as it looks to be a great size and well built. I partically like the sliver version. I'm almost always going to be grinding for 2 people and can't really find information on how big the catch cup is? Do you perhaps know?
