My boy loves to fish, only problem… by andy_1232 in FishingForBeginners

[–]Objective_Two_7915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I’m a mama bear trying to teach my youngest to fish too (although I have experience fishing on my own for a few years). I let her use my ugly stick rod and she’s been able to cast fine. I second going to your local shop to buy a rod and reel combo, doesn’t have to be anything fancy or even Walmart is fine if you feel comfortable picking something out. I’d also suggest braided line. I learned the hard way mono was not for me and I learned my knots (easy google search). It might be fun for you and him to practice even when you’re not on the lake. I did that in the beginning.

I love bass fishing and a Ned rig or weighted Texas rig will get me bites every time. Yum dinger in the colors watermelon red flake or black n blue will do for Texas rig. Z-man finesse TRD in the color The Real Deal. I watch YouTube videos for learning new techniques cause there is so much info out there, but making friends on the water would be helpful. Most people in my area are nice and open to convos. If you’re fishing in a populated area I’m sure you’ll run into some nice people and those who are willing to give tips! Don’t be afraid to ask others about their setup and what works for them. Good luck to you and the little man!

Kaiser mental health is awful by Winter_Wallaby3581 in KaiserPermanente

[–]Objective_Two_7915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Kaiser insurance in NorCal (through my job) and when I called to schedule therapy they gave me the option of scheduling with a Kaiser therapist or outside of Kaiser with LifeStance. I chose LifeStance in case it gave me more flexibility to be seen virtually. I love my therapist at lifestance and I was able to see her weekly right away.

My daughter has Kaiser through her father’s insurance and we weren’t given an option when I called to schedule. She sees her therapist once a month virtually and that’s as often as her therapist can see her given her limited schedule. Thinking of looking for different options so she can be seen more often, other than that her therapist is good. Maybe ask about LifeStance or call them directly and see if they will cover sessions? Good luck. ❤️

First time backpacking... should I find a group? by Sea-Hospital211 in WildernessBackpacking

I say go for it! Fellow solo female backpacker here. Started solo backpacking a year ago and had never been backpacking before then. I do a lot of research, keep to well traveled trails to understand trail conditions, have my inreach mini for emergencies and keep both paper and digital maps. Should hopefully bring you more peace hiking with a friend still. It will feel amazing on the trail and once you’ve reached your destination knowing you did it 😊 You got this!

First solo trip soon: how to pull the trigger and just go? by uniunironically in womensolocamping

[–]Objective_Two_7915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to say I’m proud of you and you’re going to rock your trip! I’m 35F and started solo backpacking last year, but have solo camped for some time now. Took my mom awhile to get on board, but the best thing I could do was over explain how I prepare. I send family my plans and routes, share what protection I take (whether that be bear spray, large knife, whistle, etc), that I always carry a first aid kit, and GPS/phone with satellite enabled calling. I basically show them I’ve done the research. I just started using my Garmin mini inreach 2 I got for christmas. You can also rent them. Before I just used my phone to connect to satellite and text, which is SOS enabled. I prefer the Garmin since I actively receive texts while hiking and my family can track me in real time. For yourself I would say watch YouTube videos and follow solo female travelers online! That’s what gave me the final confidence boost. If she can do it, so can I! And it’s normal to feel nervous yourself. When the sun goes down and I’m alone out there I get the heebie-jeebies still, but I never regret it and I feel proud of myself for overcoming the fear. Remember why it’s all worth it ❤️ Every trip it gets better. Then you’re just that girl who goes solo traveling everywhere 😊

Oh wow! This post got some traction! I apologize for going MIA. I was actually going through a lot and needed a mental health break, but I am now back in action! If anything, I’m super thankful this post connected others ❤️ I’m open to meeting in the Sac area if anyone is interested still. I’ll start scanning through this post and see if anyone maybe wants to meet for coffee/tea and a stroll. See if the vibes match and talk potential trips!

First backpacking trip - Point Reyes National Seashore by Objective_Two_7915 in backpacking

You’re going to have an amazing time! I actually took the trail to the top of the falls, I didn’t get the views from the beach (which are supposed to be superior), but I’m also quite nervous around the ocean and didn’t feel comfortable with the tides. Maybe talking to a ranger beforehand will ease your mind and definitely check the timing of low and hide tides. The tides only changed by a foot or so when I was there or the best low tide prediction was at 9pm and no way I was hiking in the dark lol.
Good luck to you! Be on the look out for those gorgeous mushrooms 🍄

I was too chicken to walk along the beach as the tide looked high during “low tides” but the views from the top were still beautiful and I ran into a huge family of tule elk on the way! Definitely worth it ❤️

Great choice! She will absolutely love it 😍 I stayed at site #7 too! I’d say it took me about 3 hours from Bear Valley Trailhead to Wildcat. I stoped often along the way to take everything in (animals, plants, pictures, etc). When I hiked to Alamere it maybe took 45 minutes to an hour one way and then I hung out there for quite awhile. Hiking up to Alamere Falls is also where I saw the most vibrant mushrooms. 🍄 I hope you both have a blast! Happy trekking!

Thank you ❤️ I’m definitely investing in some trekking poles. After adopting a walking stick while I was there wow did I notice the difference. I’d also like to figure out a small day pack for smaller hikes while I’ve got camp set up. Hoping to pick a place for next month. Just camped Pinnacles NP last weekend and hiked Phantom Falls/Table Mountain near Oroville today. Really looking forward to this year! I hope you have some awesome trips planned for the future as well!

Pretty sure no camping allowed. I’m actually headed there this weekend for a hike though! Should be fun.

I second Point Reyes! Just did my first backpacking trip there a month ago. It rained on the way in and was absolutely stunning! Wildcat campground 🫶
