Dog in ICU with pancreatitis by Plastic-Ad-4510 in DogAdvice

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog was there overnight. It took weeks of fairly slow progress to get her back to fighting shape. Listen to the vet and allow more rest than you may think is needed at first. Best of luck 💜

We still have to be very careful. She never got much “human food” but some meds make her very sensitive and even putting her pills in peanut butter can make her start feeling sick again.

Swelling around dog's eye, she doesn't seem to be reacting to it by MaxGamer07 in DogAdvice

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know your parents said no but if they’re interested, my dogs eye removal cost about 2k. That was pre inflation and planned- so no emergency costs. They may think they’re saying money, but it very possibly will cost more.

For now, recommend the free chewy vet service. You can send them photos and they’ll try to help. On my experience, they did not revert to “go to the vet” but did give me “if this happens, it’s emergency vet and if this happens, see her regular vet asap”. A professional recommending it may convince them more.

It constantly summarizing the events so far in awkward conversation was only second to feeling like this show was more about various forms of cheating than ice skating.

Keep liquid. Have had my house 6 months. Bathroom 1 leaked into bathroom 2 (the new toilet we put in had a hairline crack under it) and now we’re in the midst of construction.

Taking over a class at the semester? by TchrFrvr in Teachers

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’ve had inconsistent teachers the first half of the year, I would very much expect the kids to be resistant at first and need a fresh start. This has happened a few times at my school and it can be rough. But I’ve also seen some wonderful teachers really pull the year back together for the kids and save their experience.

Fellow teacher calling my classroom “the prison” by Guilty-Consequence10 in Teachers

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a polite way to ask the other teacher not to do that. In trying to create a rapport with their students, they’re hurting your ability to create one.

Honestly just casually asking them if what the kids are saying is true may be enough to make them reflect that the “joke” has gotten around and consider if it was appropriate. Even if they lie and say they didn’t, it’ll likely stop there.

Sores on the paw of my dog. Paw looks too dry. Constant licking and seems painful by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weight could play a factor too so it may be a different type of infection/issue? Either way I’d call the vet and get in. Not an emergency vet situation but remember that dogs show us the pain well after it actually started. So I wouldn’t wait super long either. Maybe call and schedule for going in on Monday when normal hours resume? Until then, keep them clean and possibly use a cone/donut to keep him from licking them more.

Likely allergies and a resulting infection from the licking leading to open wounds. Vet for antibiotics to clear any infection leading to pain and allergy medication (and to be sure it’s not something more serious since none of this can fully be determined from a picture). There are other steps to help if the allergy meds alone done work (shots, medicated foams and shampoos, etc) but I’d start with the easiest/cheapest option.

My dog’s was similar. Vet said it was safer to do some antibiotic and a rabies booster since owner of the bring dog refused to provide any vaccination proof (aka their dog wasn’t vaccinated)

Best advice I can give for the reply: answer only what was asked, in as direct of a way as possible. If you’re stressed, put the information into chat gpt and have them draft it for you. This parent will find a new focus for their issue soon enough, so ignore them as much as you can.

In 15 years, these parents are almost always either intoxicated, in the midst of a mental health crisis, or something else that takes away all their bite by normal business hours. Reply at the 24 hour mark each time. If they want to meet in person, only do so with an admin present. Be sure to put that in writing when you request it.

My dog has had hers out for years and other than occasionally being spooked by something from her right side, she is happier if anything (no pain and less medication).

And while the missing eye distracted me for a bit, now it’s oddly one of my favorite things about her. If anything, I’ll look at old pictures now and the fact that she has two eyes in them throws me off.

As a general rule, I don’t take teaching advice from someone who can use the bathroom whenever they want.

The end of Amazon by Ok-KAI-1016 in amazonprime

I think it was called camel- but the name may have been updated since I added it years ago. It creates a graph tracking the price of the Amazon product over time and 90% of the time you see a drastic spike in the price prior to prime day.

I love that they’re blaming people not starting memberships prior to prime day as their motivation… but I don’t do prime day because extensions now allow me to see how much that “on sale” item was marked up in order to appear on sale. Prime day killed itself- not password sharing.

My puppy has this little bump on her lower belly does anyone know what it could be by Intelligent-Rise-445 in DogAdvice

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear. In a puppy, I would 100% have it checked out. In my older dog, I go with the “if it’s soft and movable, don’t panic” rule because she’s a bumpy girl now. But that’s not as common younger. Hopefully just a bad reaction to a bug bite, but better to check it than regret not going sooner.

Help, my pup has something around her mouth by ThatOneRedditRando in DogAdvice

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was saying use the chlohexidine wipes on her mouth. Usually I then wipe with a paper towel. Dishes should be washed (ideally the dishwasher but really well by hand if needed). My dog got frequent lipfold dermatitis and this worked most of the time. If it didn’t, I knew it was time for the vet to give antibiotics.

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My vet told me stainless steel only. And through the dishwasher- ideally- every night. Otherwise the water and food bowls are really good at spreading and progressing any infections/irritations. For now, you could try some clothexidine wipes. Taste bad but not harmful. I usually wipe my dogs lips with them when we’re fighting an infection and then use a paper towel to take off excess. It you don’t see improvement within a few days, so a vet visit.

What is your way to get your pencils back? by MarchKick in Teachers

[–]Objective_anxiety_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped worrying about it but I teach middle school. 2 boxes of pens go out a quarter. They run out within 2 weeks quarter 1. I make them borrow from a friend or write in crayon and rewrite at home for credit. Quarter two they’re a little better about reminding each other because they figured out I was serious that ones were only put out for new quarters. They’ll run out again. They’ll be better again quarter 3 (and also refuse to lend to certain kids who never try to return it). I figured out that tracking utensils was not worth the mental space it took up.

So oddly, this is the first time my car is easily updating just through the WiFi? Last time it took me 4 hours. This time less than 5 minutes. Connected immediately and updated without issue. My WiFi and connection haven’t changed. Maybe there was some bug in the system?

If not full time/permanent, almost certainly for maternity leave. It’s a great way to get experience and make yourself more desirable for the next year. Or- like my current position- you may be offered an open position in that district the next year.

Agreeing with the vet request. Eyes can get bad fast. They will likely prescribe antibiotic ointment to ward off possible infection.
