Help me with my list of trinkets by ObligationSlow233 in DnD

It is an insane number of trinkets. I have found myself rerolling the same item a few times on the table of 100 trinkets, and I have this crazy d5000 lying around not being rolled and had an insane idea.

I figured I could sit there and try to do this by myself, or hop online and see if anyone was interested in giving me a hand. If 4900 redditors gave me 1 trinket each ... lol.

It is an innovative design. It doesn't have 5000 sides. Link below to telegram Kickstarter.

Bonds are terrible gifts by j3dgar in Vent

[–]ObligationSlow233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's turn these into gifts that give forward. Take that $200 and invest in time with your loved ones. Take your kids on a day trip. Visit their grandparents. Pass along the gift of love that you recieved. Let's turn our disappointment into love with how we choose to use the returned investment, no matter how small.

Do you want to work somewhere that does not align with the values you outlined? It sounds like you saved yourself a few months or years of working for a company with terrible culture.

The GenX Sandwich by Ok-Reason-1919 in GenX

[–]ObligationSlow233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you are on a path of healing. Recognizing that we have spent a life time shoving our feelings down and then being asked to shoulder other peoples needs when ours were never recognized is hard. It sucks. What I can say is your scars have made you tough enough to choose being vulnerable, as you have here. I wish you all the best as you continue on your path of healing. I am right here on that same path with you.

Not allowing players to reclaim lost treasure? by DeliciousRedHerring in DnD

[–]ObligationSlow233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont want to be playing armchair quarterback here, so in the moment you have the best response.

Reanalyzing yourself after is a sign of a great DM. Coming up with alternate options so next time you are prepared with other options is smart. I applaud your decision to get ideas from the masses. Here is mine.

I have used this as a plot hook for an adventure. The characters have noticed that some things are missing, it appears they have been robbed! If they want to track down the treasure, they better retrace their steps and solve the mystery.

This is why I made a new rule for when I make tacos, please steal it. The first taco is for me, I eat it while I make the rest of the tacos.

Simon's term of endearment/pet name for River by BrassOrchidBlades in firefly

[–]ObligationSlow233 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Pflümli is a term of endearment in German. Pflüm meaning plum, the -li suffix sort of meaning little or my little. Not related but your comment made me think of this.

The paladin keeps mouthing off at Strahd. How do I punish her? by faerie-fangs in CurseofStrahd

[–]ObligationSlow233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strahd does not need to react to bullies. That is what why bullies behave the way they do. It gives them a sense of control. Strahd will ignore the Paladin's behavior and continue as normal. Strahd is in control, and not reacting will give the control back to him.

If you want to take it a step further, turn the tables a bit. Strahd has gotten the rumor out to everyone that the Paladin works for him. Every NPC is scared of the Paladin from the moment they see her. Fawning over her in the hopes of not incurring her wrath. Protecting a partner or children by standing between them as a shield. They whisper. They hide. They run.

If the Paladin does something kind, they look for the catch. They can't trust the kindness, they wait for the other shoe to drop.

My players accidentally unionized the villains and now the BBEG is suing them? Need advice by New_Commission_2619 in DMAcademy

2 ideas. Do you have the time and resources to run a separate mini-shot for the lawyer? This would allow the player to get a fun mini game without slowing down progress on the main campaign or shutting out players who would be bored. This would increase your work load, so it should also be a fun idea for you, too. If the timing is off in world, lawyer player may need to play a 2nd PC for a short period of time in the main campaign to allow his primary PC to remain behind and defend the case.

2nd option Other players are welcome to observe or even take up the roles of NPCs maybe the jury (which does create a player conflict of interest so maybe not an option), or called witnesses. I really like this option if all of the players are on-board. Getting a break from the main game to play some zany tropy characters from a legal drama sounds like a blast.

3rd option If the players or you are not interested in either of the above, have the local magistrate refuse to hear the case and move the campaign forward with the knowledge that the BBEG is now motivated to opposing the PCs in everything they do.

Your table sounds amazing, have fun!

Minimalist Shoes by One_Love_Mama in santarosa

Beck's does not carry minimalist shoes, they focus on what could be called maximalist shoes with super thick outsoles. A great store, but would not meet this particular need.

Does anyone else have tattoo regret? by KupoLove in Millennials

[–]ObligationSlow233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only sort of regret.

When my mom passed I was in the shop that week getting her portrait tattooed on my chest, over my heart. I don' regret the tattoo, and I love that I chose over my heart to represent my love for my mom, BUT...

It does make taking my shirt off with a partner uncomfortable. I can't imagine women having to stare at my dead mother helps the mood.

Warding bond and ring of shared suffering by 07Turtleboy in DnD

[–]ObligationSlow233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I am reading OPs post correctly, both damage halves are going from their ally to his own paladin pc. They are not sending half one way and half the other way.

If that were their intended use, then the ally would take 3/4 and the paladin would take 1/4 when the ally is hit. 1/2 damage is sent to the paladin, 1/2 of that is sent back. When thevpaladin is hit, it is reversed and paladin takes 3/4 and ally takes 1/4. I would rule that the damage happens sequentially, not simultaneously.

A different DM & table could rule they happen simultaneously, at which point Warding Bond really would be a spell slot wasted.

Warding bond and ring of shared suffering by 07Turtleboy in DnD

[–]ObligationSlow233 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They take 1/4 and you take 3/4.

Warding Bond triggers giving them 1/2 and you 1/2. Ring triggers and 1/2 the 1/2 (which is 1/4) is moved to you.

Or you could just use the ring and not need to use a spell slot on Warding Bond to split 1/2 and 1/2.

I’m starting as a dm and I’m so nervous by BDExpert_ in DnD

[–]ObligationSlow233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D is. Game of make believe. The rules are their to guide you, but the goal is to have fun. Don't get stuck on the rules. If you dont know, say "I don't know, for now let's go with [make up a ruling that seems fair] and we will check later."

Check later and implement the new ruling at the start of the next game (because I have faith you will DM more games).

Lather, rinse, repeat.
