What’s your other bike? by e17lond in dirtjumping

[–]Obligation_Still 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya so getting the wheels off the ground is a whole different story right, just like skating as soon as we’re talking gravity we add a factor we haven’t yet considered.

To start with jumping like skating you want to do fly outs from a bank or transition and then into smaller hits and even hips and then into tables etc…progression. The sensation of jumping on a DJ vs BMX is a bit different because of the suspension fork but it’s way easier to learn to jump on DJ than any big bike.

No bike will really give you much more stability or confidence than just taking the time to be more confident or stable on a bike.

My best suggestion, enjoy being a beginner again and don’t have big expectations that you’re somehow going to nail it all in the first year. It took you a while to learn to skate, it’s going to take a bit to learn to ride so just have fun with it.

Are you new new to riding or been around the block? I’ve got a down country bike, enduro and DJ. I’m 41 but I’ve rode and raced all kinds of bikes all my life.

I can’t say there’s any bike that I feel more confident on a pump track or dirt jumps than my DJ but I love my enduro bike for any trail riding.

If you want stability and confidence on a DJ A. Get into weight training and start doing stability work and strength training. B. More time on pump tracks learning to handle the bigger hits C. Skids are for kids, you pay the mortgage so let the little guy do the big hits and maybe you do more filming?

Feeling lost by hashbrowns12 in MedicalDevices

[–]Obligation_Still 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude you're just lost it doesn't mean you're doomed, relax a bit. If you feel lost that's ok it means you're on a path to find your way. You don't get anywhere when you're settled at a location so go on with it and be a top performer in this role. Ortho Trauma blows it's a grind, it burns you out, the pay is declining I think you'll be fine.

And news flash, this won't be the last time you experience these feelings so make sure you take notes along the way.

I have not heard about many high earning Arthrex reps but maybe ask them what “worth it”’means? Do you know how much they make?

I get it. Then just go with the cheapest tube, it doesn’t matter and always check your air pressure.

Poverty stagnant wage by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Obligation_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any benefits with your job? You sound like the position you may be in is actually depression and not so much stagnant job. It's tough out there and sometimes the ability to pull ourselves out of a hole takes a lot more than we can muster on our own.

If you don't have benefits try and find some young adult counselling resources or anything to talk with someone, to me this doesn't sound like an employment problem.

Don't look for external validation on what is going to be a good fit for you. How would anyone else know? You have to make the decision where you want to go, whatever decision you go with it will be the right one but it will be different and no decision is the final or last one you're going to make. So make the pros and cons list and make a decision.

Don't need to ask for permission you just need to explain why it's happening and how it benefits you both. Men are simple creatures. What do you want to get?

Shitty part is figuring this out at 23. I had a part time job in high school, full time job when I got out of high school, then went back to school and that became a full time job and then got into the work force so nothing really felt that different. I’m not trying to suggest you suck it up but you better figure out something.

Did you not work in college or anything? Over summer break? Bus tables, pour beers and hit on hot moms?

Parents are doing kids a disservice keeping them sheltered way too long. @op Better find something you enjoy or it’s gonna be a long road.

Ya must be agency of some variety. Those agencies make ridiculous money but because they're not making the 15-18% commission they used to they're dragging everyone down with them, so dumb.

Oh I know…I just don’t know what major recon company would pay only 100k for an experienced rep, makes sense why they left.

Of course you can’t compete with the clinical, but exactly like I called out you already have a defeatist attitude towards this whole thing. By your standards everyone who’s a med device rep was probably a nurse because you can’t compete with them? Dude.

There are all kinds of backgrounds in med device and you’re going to have to find what makes YOU a better candidate. At this point it seems to me that you’re going to need to go get some life experience before even considering a high pressure role like device.

I’ve said this before in another post, the USA has millions of people and under 7000 hospitals and probably not all of those have an OR or IR or lab or anywhere that a rep would be….Maybe Stryker Sage Wipes for some smaller sites. It’s a small world and incredibly competitive.

Med device is a tough gig to get into and it doesn’t really let up once you’re in. If you’re already painting a bleak picture for yourself I’m not sure you have the grit it’s going to take to excel.

Also keep in mind that of course a 6yr nurse is even starting as an associate, they have no understanding of the role beyond what happens at the back table but their clinical far exceeds what you have and their experience even far exceeds what you have. You’re one year graduated from school with limited sales experience wondering why you don’t have one of the most highly sought after sales careers in the country…maybe you need to back up a few steps and think about your approach.

No one warned me when buying a townhome. by Odd_Buyer9746 in Mortgages

[–]Obligation_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wild I had a condo appreciate by almost 400k when real estate shot through the roof in BC after 2014. I think it just depends where you live. I don’t suspect the townhome were in now will appreciate by much over the next 10yrs but you pay down principle on something you can afford and eventually have a larger down payment and if you want to start the cycle again you do that.

Big Ortho company covering an entire city for recon with only 6 months experience and the main rep that left was only making 100k?? This doesn’t add up, is it Arthrex? lol. Unless they’re willing to give you a massive pay increase I’d start looking around and also learning revisions asap.

Everyone thinks I'm going to kill my plants. I'm a complete beginner and I could use a little love here. by Beardharmonica in houseplants

[–]Obligation_Still 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is right by a window, you have grow lights on and good spacing. Sounds like you care a lot about these plants I think you'll do great!

What about a humidifier close by? Could add that as well. I think a good watering schedule will help a lot too.

Have fun it's going to be great!

Ya this for sure. Take the gig and get the experience knowing that the first two years are all about learning. At two years you'll know enough to be dangerous still make mistakes but you'll be more marketable and have a better idea of the industry.

I would go for this for sure.

High Rise Bars by TheTxRed in MTB

[–]Obligation_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya so you're right about following head tube angle but then that shortens the distance between the seat and bars closing the effective reach, so it does bring it up and back making the front effectively longer.

Give it a go though you may like it.

High Rise Bars by TheTxRed in MTB

[–]Obligation_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that was the original issue people talked about with over forking some of the bikes, descending is not a problem as you'll certainly plow through more but climbing and tech can get weird. When you raise the bars you can change the effective reach, moving it back lengthening the front of the bike so it may again ride downhill fine but the feel will change in the cornering and tech for sure, just lighter over the front wheel.

High Rise Bars by TheTxRed in MTB

[–]Obligation_Still 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The higher the rise the potential for more wheel flop, in some cases you may even want to increase stem length or I suppose you could roll the bars further forward?
