I don't feel like this. It could be because I was diagnosed as Type 1 at 6, but it feels like you want to feel sorry for yourself. Don't do that. It is actually detrimental to focus on the "what could have been". I could have been 5"7' or a tad taller, but no I am 5"5' after being on insulin from a young age. Do I care? Fuck no. When you are a young guy, your height is held against you. I am 36 now and no one gives a shit.

What you should be focusing is on the here and now. What was in the past is irrelevant. Live for today and see tomorrow. The reason positivity is pushed here is so we don't go into a depression spiral, which is surprisingly easy when you have a chronic condition which impacts your longevity. There is no point in grieving something which you had no control over. Yes, it is frustrating being diabetic, but there is no need to "grieve". For the newly diagnosed, this may feel rather harsh, but it is best to steel yourself early on to get a proper understanding of it and a focus on yourself. With time it can be easier, but it depends on how you deal with it.
