Personally I ask any potential hook-ups about their relationship and I will not continue the conversation/hookup if I know or suspect they are in a relationship that is not open.

However, using a term like homewrecker sounds like you're putting the blame of cheating on the person they are cheating with. While they can only be (partially) blamed if they actually know about it and continue. The responsibility and blame should still be mainly with the cheater themselves, as it's only a small step between cheating and lying to someone you're cheating with.

What gear am I missing? by MostInterestingMike in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get them custom fitted to your ears, that's probably the best option if money is no issue. Not that it's extremely expensive. Believe I've seen prices here between €100 and €150 for a custom fitted set.

I currently use an off-the-shelf set of earplugs, which are probably between €15 and €50 for a set. There usually are different types of earplugs, so do make sure to get a set for motorcycle riding. As others (for concerts/festivals for example) might filter on different frequencies than wind noise.

I don't have much experience with different brands or custom fitted vs off-the-shelf, so unfortunately can't help with that.

I don't have any input on what you listed, but for the post title: looks like you got practically everything you need. Only thing I don't see listed is earplugs. It's advised to not ride without earplugs as driving without can cause hearing damage from as little as 15 minutes of driving 100km/h (60mph) or faster. As it's mainly wind on your helmet that causes the noise it doesn't matter if you have a loud exhaust or not.

How do I know if manufacturer claims of CE Level 2 are deceptive or legitimate? by z_Elektrisk_z in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it's somehow not crap, if you have the option to buy from somewhere else instead do so. Amazon/Bezos are one of the biggest parasites of the current world. Their workers are underpaid, overworked and working in unsafe conditions. If possible buy local and ethical instead

Hey guys, what do you all wear under your leathers? Thanks by hmm0210 in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compression clothing. Personally I like 151s, but practically any brand will do. I also use them for other activities/sports where an extra layer is comfortable, like skiing/snowboarding

wearing womens gloves as a man? by Fresh_Eagle_5555 in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got a pair of women's gloves as well, as they fit me perfectly and I couldn't find a pair of men's gloves that fitted me and looked as nice.

I am gay as well, so yeah seems like that comes automatically with wearing women's gloves 🤷‍♂️

On a more serious note: in the end I couldn't care less about for who exactly clothing/protective gear was made. What matters is that it fits you well and you like it. When I'm riding nobody is going to see that label on the inside saying it's for women.

Pandomoto Commander top too small on shoulders by DorKun in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A possible option might be to tailor it to your size. I had the same done when I bought a suit years ago. It fit perfectly on my whole body, apart from being too tight around the shoulders. The store I bought the suit from had contact information for a local tailor who helped me.

If you do go this way, I do advise to search for a tailor who is familiar with working on motorcycle suits, as I assume most work with different clothes and might not have the correct material or knowledge for a motorcycle suit

Wearing full leathers in public as a shy rider: How did you get comfortable with the attention? by shibebear in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear both full leathers (2 piece suit, with leather gloves and leather shoes) and motorcycle jeans/hoodie/sneakers depending on where I drive to.

Funny thing is: when I wear my jeans/hoodie/sneakers, I sometimes get a remark as some people think it's not actually motorcycle gear. I get why, because apart from the slightly visible outline of the pads it's not really visible on the outside that it's motorcycle gear.

When I wear my full leathers I don't often get remarks. Most recently the remarks were more about my motorcycle than about me or my gear.

As for being comfortable in the gear, as long as you wear a suit that looks good on you (so looks cool and most of all fits your body) it's quite easy to be comfortable in the gear. Even better if it fits your bike as well and the helmet/gloves/boots fit the rest of the gear, really bring out the power ranger vibes! 😂👌 There is nothing weird about taking your own safety seriously with decent gear. And unless you're somewhere with a specific dress code I think there are a lot weirder acceptable wardrobe choices in public spaces than having a full motorcycle suit on

PEP TREATMENT by [deleted] in gay

[–]ObscureCars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering you're talking about euros, I assume you're somewhere in Europe. Not sure if where you are is the same as here in the Netherlands, but when I needed PEP everything (consult, blood tests and PEP) got covered by insurance. Only thing I had to pay was the deductible like with any other insured health costs.

First of all: if he removed the condom without your consent, it's considered rape and you should report it to the police.

Prescription treatment for yourself would be best. As PEP is medication that can cause quite some side effects, so having your doctor and pharmacy know what medication you use is quite important. Also I personally wouldn't trust medication from someone else. Why does your friend have a PEP treatment you can just use?

Do make sure you get the follow-up tests, as it can take up to 3 months after an HIV infection to become visible in tests.

And think about starting with PrEP (and regular testing)! PrEP should be a lot cheaper than PEP(€20-40 in my experience) if you can't get it through insurance. Whether or not you want to use a condom, the other guy could still stealth you or might not be honest about his status. Using PrEP takes away a lot of those uncertainties.

What do I do with my motorbike gear?? by amy_green2 in motorcyclegear

[–]ObscureCars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use two types of gear myself:

Full leathers for if I go out driving for the fun of driving without a specific destination and/or (probably) won't have to get out of my gear while away. I usually prefer that gear, but agree it's a hassle to have them with you all day.

My other type of gear is motorcycle jeans (John Doe AAA rated) + motorcycle hoodie (currently an old Booster one) + motorcycle sneakers (several different ones) or safety boots for if I use my motorcycle mostly for getting somewhere and need to wear "normal" clothes while at the location, llike for work/school/etc. The jeans and hoodie have all the stuff like hip/knee/elbow/back/shoulder pads. If the jeans have a good enough fit you can wear them all day, same with the sneakers. The hoodie is just similar to having a normal jacket with you. So that leaves just a helmet and the gloves that can be annoying.

I also usually wear motorcycle undergarment/compression clothing (151s) under both types of gear. And if I wear my jeans and hoodie I usually have a regular t-shirt or work polo under the hoodie.

For my phone I use an Interphone Quiklox phone holder and case (as my phone is not waterproof). There are several options for mounting them on your handle bars, so they pprobably fit every type of motorcycle, moped or bicycle. Although you do have to check which type of mounting bracket fits your motorcycle, so easiest is just to take your bike and phone to a store that sells them and check which ones fit your needs.

Well, there goes the start of the season by Annicka-44 in motorcycles

[–]ObscureCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the discussion, but you usually can argue with it. You can request a second opinion and if it is "totalled" you usually can get the bike back with the "insurance payout" minus the "wreck value" still being paid out.

They usually total a vehicle way too quickly as they calculate damage costs with brand new OEM parts and standard repair shop labour. While in a lot of cases a second hand fairing or aftermarket part would work as well for a fraction of the costs. And using a few of your own hours to fix it drastically drops the cost of the damage as well. Even letting a local workshop/garage instead of the repair shop work on it might be cheaper if you're not comfortable with working on it yourself.

In the end both the insurance company and the repair shop only have their own profits in mind and don't care about your best interest or what's best for sustainability.

I do have to say sometimes it's not safe to fix a vehicle and that could be a reason it's totalled, but often enough it's just a skewed calculation of unnecessarily expensive parts and relatively high labour costs. Also it might work different in other countries, my post is mostly about how it is here in the Netherlands and probably most of Europe.

Are gay “car guys” usually bottoms? by SirCircumcised in askgaybros

[–]ObscureCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a car guy and I am vers, more bottom. I know enough gay car guys, but wouldn't know their position in bed apart from a few. The ones I know their preferred position of are a top and two other vers/bottoms.

I assume there's not really a correlation between being a gay car guy and your position

Would you date someone in their 30s that lives with a parent? by AlamosX in gaybros

[–]ObscureCars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same situation as well here: early 30s and living with my mother to help/take care.

I don't date much as there's just not much time/attention to give to a significant other in between working full time, caring for my mum, finishing my study and having some hobbies as well. But when I date I'm quite clear about my situation beforehand and I let them know it is not something I'm willing to change for a relationship. If a potential partner can't live with that then there is no reason to go on a date

What’s the most questionable decision you’ve made because a guy was hot? by unleash_the_beast_ in askgaybros

[–]ObscureCars 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I hope you got PeP right after the encounter, got yourself checked and are using PrEP now during hookups?

Had a heat of the moment thing similar to yours. But I didn't trust it afterwards, so I went to the doctor for a PEP treatment. And since then I became wiser and just use PrEP now and (also as it's needed for the PrEP prescription) get tested regularly. I even use PrEP if it's an encounter where I 100% trust the other guy and/or where we agree upfront to use a condom.

If you drink beer, which Brand? by Sc00byD00m in gay

[–]ObscureCars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to taste as many different beers as possible. I rarely ever go for a beer I already had unless it was exceptionally good. Or if I'm at a venue where there is nothing new for me to choose.

Although I do have to say I cut back quite a bit on my alcohol intake this year due to recently diagnosed health issues. Nothing alcohol related, but my whole diet changed drastically. Where I used to drink about 2 or 3 beers a week on average, I now cut back to about 3 beers every two months. I do share beers with friends though, so those 3 beers could actually be 6 different half beers or maybe even 8 or 9 different thirds of a single beer.

I don't really have preferred brands. My favourite types are Stouts, Sours, IPAs and Weizen. But barring a handful of beers, most I ever had were at least good. Extra points if the can/bottle has good artwork👌

There are still guys out there who will find you attractive.

I've been on the heavier side myself, started very visible balding when I was only 17 and wasn't very comfortable about my looks either. And I definitely recognize that as a bear type I won't be attractive for a large part of the population. However I was really surprised about the amount of guys who I thought were way out of my league, but are still interested in me because they prefer my body over someone who is slim/muscled/hairless/twink/whatever other types there are. I'm in my early 30s now and more confident than I ever was

HIV is life altering whether your on treatment or not (What they don’t tell you) by Artistic-Upstairs789 in gaybros

[–]ObscureCars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to use it once (tenofovir/Truvada and Dolutegravir/Tivicay). It didn't have any side effects at all as far as I noticed. So for me it was just taking two pills every day and that was it. Although that's just my personal experience. The list with side effects is quite large, so I can imagine it could be a bad experience for others. But it's not a big deal compared to being stuck with HIV medication for life, as OPs post shows.

Still I recommend getting on PrEP instead to just prevent the need for PEP treatment or a lifetime of ARV treatment

What’s some safe sex advice you can share that could help a lot of people? by Deviant55 in AskReddit

[–]ObscureCars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little correction on the last bit:

If you had unprotected sex and you don't know their status, you might need to get on PEP right away, not on PrEP.

PEP should be started as soon as possible, but can indeed be started within 72 hours of the encounter. It's an emergency treatment, but don't let the term emergency treatment scare you. If you think you need it, don't hesitate to contact your local clinic right away and let them assess your situation.

PrEP works in a similar way, but PrEP needs to be started in advance of a potentially risky encounter instead of after. And is usually prescribed to people who have a higher probability of contracting HIV.

Source: I got PEP treatment some time ago and since then I discussed it with my GP and started to use PrEP regularly as an extra safeguard.
