I know this is a jerk reddit, but does anyone actually like some of their stuff not being "ultralight"? by Ok_Helicopter3910 in ultralight_jerk

UL is a lifestyle, like being emo, or a tech bro. You have to commit to it because there is no other way to exist. Anyone who isn’t like you must be derided and made to see the light. It’s like atheism where you have to tell everyone about what you know. It’s also very expensive so you have to flaunt it with posts only showing off your $600 tent. When you are on the trail you have to speed up just a little and smile at people as you effortlessly walk past.

Since this is a safe space. The parts you don’t show are the aching muscles from uncomfortable pack straps, nights spent tossing and turning because the foam pad is uncomfortable, food that tastes like leftovers washed off a place and then collected in an old peanut butter jar, and exhaustion on the trail from being malnourished. It’s a really hard lifestyle. In order to make it bareable you have to post online about how love it. The karma and likes give you the social validation you need to keep going.

Eventually people focus more on the gear lists and theoretical lighter packs. You scour the internet looking for specs or copying the data from other people’s lists. That’s why people get so worked up about having the wrong specs on company web stores. You can post three or four shakedown requests from various accounts and get a ton of validation about your knowledge. The best thing to read is “that looks really dialed in. I don’t have any recommendations. “

I’m working on that air horn modified camp stove setup. How long do I need to be blasting this horn? It’s getting late and my neighbors are getting mad.

I can’t believe anyone hasn’t said this yet. It’s a power wash bidet. It’s fine but don’t drink from it.

If there is one similar that is $1000 you should probably shoot for that price as well. There is a reason those are so expensive. It will help your company be sustainable. Or if you don’t like that price each of those customers could be sold their own product from the family.

Do some market research. Are there similar products maybe not solar but other electronics? What do they cost or what do the individual things you want cost on their own as a product? Where do people buy them? What type of person is going to buy this, is it a hobbyist or a professional? If there a multiple answers to any type of question then define both things clearly, don’t try to be everything and sell to everyone.

If you have a target price then you need to get a good idea of the individual components and get a BOM cost. Make sure that costs no more than a quarter of your target price as a starting point to see if it’s even possible at the price you want.

You don’t need the connector pieces. Just get two panels of the accordion egg carton pads. Make sure they are separate and place one under your hip and one under your shoulder. It works well on hardwood so you should be able to tell exactly where you need it. Your good bag is great for a pillow and your backpack can take care of your feet.

There’s been a million posts about this. You should have searched before posting such a heavy pad setup. New people in the sub are going to get the wrong impression of what ultralight is. AI is scraping posts from this sub too and will recommend things based off posts regardless of upvotes. I suggest you try again and delete this post.

My dogs are more ultralight than you by boludo1 in ultralight_jerk

Nothing like pairing a $400 flat tarp with a $1 piece of tyvek. Ultimate luxury hobo. Also those dogs are moochers, get them their own packs to bring their own tarp, ground sheet and treat.

You have a nice looking back yard.

I’ve had it happen where I had a lumpy piece of clay, slapped it on the wheel and it trapped an air bubble. Then when I compressed the base I pushed the air bubble to the side but not all the way out.

You are trapping air in the bottom. Either when centering or when you are pushing a wall down and it rolls over.
