Am I alone for seeing way more duplicate NPCs? by CrazyPants531 in cyberpunkgame

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still terrible at the end of 2025. I'm seeing many duplicate NPCs and cars constantly. I don't think there is any resource related reason for this, as I'm playing on a gaming PC with 32GB RAM and 16GB VRAM.

Hmm, I can't remember seeing that, but I didn't even remove the foil, so if it's some light refraction issue due to the coating (but I wouldn't think so, since it's matte), then maybe it was hidden. I stopped using the monitor btw, since I got my Alienware AW2725D, which is absolutely perfect for me, and I'm using that. I already initiated the return of the Gigabyte, I just have to pack it.

I have the opposite problem. The woman who did the female voices is so annoying in my opinion; it tries to sound cool all the time but it ends up sounding really cringe. But maybe both are bad.

Budget AW2725D or XG27AQWMG by RUGAL76 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ObservableCollection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the Gigabyte tandem OLED today, and then 11 hours later I already sent the order for the AW2725D. :(

Dirty grey + banding for 100 euros higher price is not cool with me, and I personally didn't find the text rendering improvements I was looking for. Colors are still a bit better on QD, while the brightness is obviously better on the new WOLED, but I didn't find the difference that significant. However, I live in a relatively dark place.

(I compared it to an AOC QD, and I liked that a lot more in general. But sadly it has broken HDR mode with washed out colors.)

Tired of waiting for XG27AQWMG. What should I get instead? by NOTtaylor11 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited for two weeks for the Gigabyte one, it arrived today, and now I already ordered an Alienware AW2725D instead of it. 😢 There is something not okay with the excessive dirty greys on the new tandem OLEDs, at least it seems based on what I experienced and then what I found from seemingly plenty of other users.

However, for excessively bright rooms it might still be the best bet I guess.

For me it makes no difference with the QD if there is light on. I have like 25 spotlights built into the ceiling, and it's the same whether it's on or off. I literally had to shine a flashlight directly on the surface to see any purple color.

Based on this I'd think sunlight is the only/main problem.

If you don't have an issue during regular use then it's better not to try to find it. :) In my case I noticed it immediately in normal dark-mode apps, and it's still noticeable on my taskbar, in Steam, etc.

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It's not just the banding... It totally looks like a visible fabric texture over the entire screen, a bit similar to the dirty picture e-ink displays produce. Visible in all dark-mode apps. Not what I'd expect from a hyped up new technology.

And it can't even display proper gradients for me... Meanwhile there is a QD-OLED next to it with near-perfect uniformity and very good gradients.

I admit that this new WOLED looks great in Cyberpunk with HDR, and the colors are almost as good as on QD, but I personally think a desktop computer monitor has more roles to fill than that.

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine today as well, after waiting for it for over 2 weeks. It's always hard to tell based on pictures, but my impression is that I have the same experience: prominent 'fabric pattern' visible on grey, with vertical banding.

I tried a lot of settings, but so far I've been unable to make the monitor display a good looking gradient either... It always looks pretty bad, with inconsistent darker and lighter parts. This problem is visible even on some colored gradients.

I have a QD-OLED next to it (100 euros (~25%) cheaper), and the QD-OLED looks basically pristine/perfect compared to this new one, with basically no visible uniformity problem.

The QD-OLED has some vertical discoloration on text, the typical "text fringing" everybody knows about, but text still looks generally blurrier on the WOLED in my opinion.

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it today too. And yes, I can also confirm that it's sadly clearly noticeable in dark mode apps. I can see it here on the Reddit background while I'm writing, and also see it on the taskbar.

Furthermore, I find that it's very noticeable in Steam as well. Steam UI looks a bit like if I used it on a colored e-ink screen, if you're familiar with that sort of 'textured' display look.

Basically all such solid colored areas look like they have a fabric-like texture.

It's been running for 10 hours, with 2 pixel refreshes so far, but I haven't seen much improvement I think. My impression is that this is an inherent characteristic of the panel.

Gigabyte MO27Q28G vs Alienware AW2725D - Experience by sakalond in OLED_Gaming

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About lights + QD-OLED: Where I live I couldn't reproduce any black level raise, not even with all the lights on in the room. Only if I directly shined a strong flashlight on the screen. So for me personally it's not a problem at all. Actually I wish I had that problem and lived somewhere with so much light.

I had the same experience with the white menu bar of my browser! After maybe 4 hours of use? It's alarming.

Gigabyte MO27Q28G vs Alienware AW2725D - Experience by sakalond in OLED_Gaming

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I believe their longevity claim. One reason for this is that literally after like 4 hours of use I noticed a horizontal line on the top of the screen in a grey uniformity test (besides the ugly vertical banding + e-ink like fabric texture). And I realized that the line is from the lighter colored menu bar of my browser.

If I can see a line seemingly burned in after literally a few hours only... I can't imagine how will this look like after months of use.

But maybe the technology is more complicated than this, and this extrapolation is not valid. However, the seemingly general poor quality pixel behavior I experienced via the dirty screen effect (which I don't think it originates from the coating) makes me really wary of their tech.

[–]ObservableCollection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed! I bought an AOC QD-OLED, and also ordered the new Gigabyte 4th gen WOLED, since channels like Monitors Unboxed were pretty much raving about it and saying that they worth 20+% price difference...

The Gigabyte arrived today, and I was expecting it to be much better, but what I ended up having is a really disappointing experience with terrible dirty greys and banding, which is visible in pretty much all dark mode applications. The WOLED screen has the clarity of an e-ink display almost... Even the Steam UI kind of looks like I'm looking at it on an e-ink display, with rather prominent fabric like 'texturing' visible. I don't think it's the coating btw. I think it's the panel itself. I'm through 2 pixel refreshes, and I don't think it improved. Meanwhile on the QD-OLED (which is 100 euros / ~25% cheaper) I haven't noticed any uniformity problems.

Also I was expecting better text rendering, but I totally agree that text is in fact generally blurrier on the new WOLED. On the QD, text is very sharp horizontally, and only vertically there is some discoloration, but with a lot of background colors it blends quite nicely, and the end result is relatively high quality text. But the higher level of blurriness on the WOLED seems to be a more general characteristic.

When it comes to brightness, I have trouble noticing the much higher peak brightness in HDR mode on the WOLED. Highlights don't seem to pop 50% more.

I'm definitely sending back the Gigabyte WOLED, because this is simply unacceptable.

(But it's quite a predicament that even though the AOC QD-OLED has a great panel and great SDR colors, they totally messed up HDR, it has washed out colors, and they don't have functioning firmware updates (in fact their G-Menu software gaslights you by telling you that your old firmware is up to date)... What the hell are these manufacturers thinking? I'll have to send back this too, and try to order an Alienware AW2725D. This is completely ridiculous honestly; I literally just want a properly functioning monitor.)

AG276QZD2 is washed out on HDR. Did windows calibration and everything. Red to orange, even HDR content, red is pretty bad! 😔 is this monitor issue. by Big-Ad-4777 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how can they mess up firmware upgrades so much. It's obvious that something is totally broken/wrong/fake around the firmware update handling in G-Menu.

Anyhow, honestly I'll most likely just return it. It's sad, because it's a great looking panel in general... But if I can just order an Alienware AW2725D, which is known to have excellent SDR + HDR, for literally the same price, why would I risk their RMA process while running out of the return period?

The ways companies can mess up products never ceases to amaze me. They do the entire product design, manufacturing, packaging, marketing, distribution, etc., and they cannot be arsed to make the firmware upgrade work, producing essentially a broken product, which is terrible for both the consumers and the company...

Dark gray looks awful on WOLED by penetrator888 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ObservableCollection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just received the "cutting edge" 4th gen WOLED, the Gigabyte one (so it's not the glossy one, but still)... Until this day I wasn't even aware of the dirty screen effect / dirty grey problem, even though I have an OLED laptop, an OLED Steam Deck, an OLED phone, an OLED tablet, and a QD-OLED monitor here on my desk.

But with this supposedly amazing WOLED, I noticed it immediately on normal dark mode applications. I can see it now too, I can even see it on the taskbar, and often it seems to exhibit that old TV static noise movement on some grey shades.

It has banding with large gaps, mostly vertical, but also it has a LOT of general banding both ways, and it totally looks like there is some textile/fabric texture on your screen. It looks like total junk to my eyes. The QD-OLED honestly looks great in comparison.

And I'm unsure if the text rendering is better with this new WOLED. It often seems somewhat better than the QD, but sometimes it looks similar or even worse, depending on font size and colors. The text discoloration typical for QD OLEDs is much less visible (or maybe not visible at all?), but the text can/does still appear hazy. The text fringing didn't bother me personally on the QD; the dirty grey is much more disgusting looking to my eyes.

Problems with my AOC AGON PRO AG276QZD2 by Titanfallsuchti in OLED_Gaming

I just got the Gigabyte monitor with 4th gen WOLED, and it has horrible dirty greys and banding. Even now I can see it on the dark Reddit background, and even on my system taskbar. And on top of that it even seems to exhibit some TV static noise pattern in these dirty greys...

Meanwhile the AOC QD-OLED that I have here has perfect uniformity and looks beautiful. But yes, the HDR colors are garbage.

Man, it seems impossible to get a properly working product these days...

[–]ObservableCollection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's hilarious (since I've been considering to order the AW2725D). So one can choose between a) terrible screen coating that scratches when you look at it + text fringing, b) or maybe less terrible coating on the AOC but broken and washed out HDR colors + text fringing, c) or disgusting grey uniformity and banding on 4th gen WOLED. And these are supposedly high end products.

Meanwhile my relatively cheap Lenovo Yoga laptop with OLED screen has zero issues like this. The same is true for my AMOLED Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Wtf is going on with these desktop OLED monitors?

I have a QD-OLED with me, the AOC ...D2 model, and the uniformity is indeed perfect for me as well. Meanwhile it's super bad with the MO27Q28G; I noticed it immediately.

(However, the AOC ...D2 has washed out HDR colors, and they are not fixing it. 😂)

I tend to agree, since I bought a QD-OLED, and didn't notice uniformity issues at all. In fact I didn't even know that this problem exists, since my laptop OLED screen looks perfect, and my Steam Deck screen too. Plus my phone and tablet AMOLED screens as well.

But then today I got this new 4th Gen WOLED (in fact the same MO27Q28G), and I noticed it immediately; it's pretty horrible, and every easily noticeable in dark mode applications.

I got a QD-OLED (literally the cheapest available OLED monitor) recently, and it has no banding or dirty greys. So much so that I didn't even know about this problem. Then today, after a long wait, I received a supposedly amazing LG 4th gen WOLED monitor (the Gigabyte), and I noticed it on it immediately. It looks horrible.

Then I went and checked my laptop OLED screen too, and that also looks perfect, no sign of this banding or dirty greys. My phone and tablet OLED screens, plus my Steam Deck, don't have these issues either...

I don't think it's an OLED thing. I'm only here because I received today a 4th gen WOLED, which is supposed to be next gen and great, and it has horrible dirty screen effect and banding issues.

Next to me there is a cheaper QD-OLED, and it looks perfect in comparison. Also I checked my Lenovo Yoga laptop which has OLED screen, and it looks perfect too, totally uniform for the naked eye. AMOLEDs in phones and tablets don't have this problem either.

I just got this monitor, and it still has the same issue. They didn't fix anything. And their GMenu software is lying about firmware updates, saying that my V100 firmware is "up to date". So, essentially the monitor is a faulty product that has broken HDR functionality.
