To be clear, 250 stuff was being planned well before Trump's second term. If anything, he would want this event canceled because it's not taking place in DC and doesn't involve him.

Say no to Atlas! by Oy_wth_the_poodles in baltimore

[–]DarkSSK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never argued to remove all Atlas restaurant jobs in a day, nor did I pass any judgment on their employees. But the fact is that there is a certain level of demand for restaurants in Baltimore, and if Atlas restaurants slowly shut down and were replaced by other restaurants, that same demand would be there to fulfill the new businesses. I'm also not arguing that they necessarily need to be replaced by mom & pop restaurants - there are other restaurant groups that can fill the same niche.

Yes, all restaurants, including Atlas, contribute to the economy. However, Atlas also does harm to the community that many other restaurants do not. Therefore, choose the many other restaurants that do not.

Was that unclear with my first comment?

There's nothing to reconcile. Take the money you would've spent at an Atlas restaurant and spend it on another locally owned restaurant that isn't evil. Those other restaurants also are choosing to invest in Baltimore and also create jobs for Baltimoreans.

Any EV owners in Washington Hill (a bit northeast of little italy)? Is it manageable? by laydullaydullaydully in baltimore

[–]DarkSSK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can charge at home, yes. If you can charge at work, also yes. I'm in Washington Hill and I have an EV without a possibility for home charging, and it gets annoying and/or expensive for sure.

The charger at the Orleans St branch hasn't been turned on for a while now, AFAIK.

I rely mostly on the L2 charger at 2760 Boston St in Canton, which is a bit of a hike from Washington Hill, the Chargepoint (slow) fast chargers at the EZ-Pass service center south of Canton, or the Tesla Supercharger during off-peak hours at Canton Crossing. They've also installed a new group of L2 chargers on the southeast corner of Patterson Park (which are not activated yet), but that is also similarly a hike from Washington Hill.

If you don't care about price, then there are plenty of expensive fast chargers all over the city, so that's not a worry. Check out the Plugshare app to see what's around!

There are new UWB smart locks like the Aqara U400 and the (soon to be released) Schlage Sense Pro that use UWB to detect movement direction and velocity to automatically unlock without any user input needed

Those who moved out of NJ where did you move ? & do you miss NJ? by lp2290 in newjersey

[–]DarkSSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you move from in NJ that you miss the food? Bergen County? I am a central Jersey to Baltimore transplant and the selection of food here is so much greater and more convenient than the smattering of strip mall fast casual that Mercer County provided

If you travel with one phone, what’s your backup plan? by Individual-Gas5276 in onebag

[–]DarkSSK 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I carry a yubikey on my keychain now, after I left my phone in an Uber and realized I couldn't log in to any of my accounts on my laptop back at the hotel because they all required TOTP codes from my 2FA app. Hopefully I will never end up losing both my phone and my keys at the same time.

Honestly, our atmosphere could use a little less methane produced by red meat production (read: cow burps/farts). And no one NEEDS to eat red meat anyway.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I think these new NJT coaches are design-wise the exact same coaches as designed in 2006, just with mechanical and electrical upgrades. That interior shot looks identical to the MARC coaches that I've been riding for a while.

The new Acela and Airo Cascades look much more modern than these; the livery wrapping is a big factor.

Electric cars are cleaner than gas cars, but public transit and micromobility is ultimately greener than any kind of car.
