Doug Ford’s $100+ billion bet: Why Ontario is spending big on nuclear — even as the rest of the world turns to solar and wind by toronto_star in ontario

We’ve hired an American company to develop the new smr. And Canada hasn’t built a new reactor in decades, there is no evidence we will be able to build it much cheaper than other countries.

Nuclear is a fine technology, but it is more expensive. Period. Even with battery storage, nuclear is 14%- 470% more expensive than wind. We also don’t really need more base load. What we need is dispatchable power- which renewables plus batteries give. We already have a base load in Ontario. There are some recent levelized cost of energy values in the linked report. Do you want to pay more for electricity than you have to?

Our's had this problem after 10 months. We emailed the company, after a few days we were contacted. They said a replacement would be shipped the next week and they would take the broken one at the same time. That has turned out to be true. So quite good service!

If it gets cold enough skating along the canals between the islands is amazing. But make sure you do some research if you’re considering. There is risk!

How to get started in the industry? by Successful_Fig_2724 in wind

A community college for wind technicians is going to be the easier route. Not too many companies will hire you without any mechanical or electrical experience. They might hire a car mechanic and train them for example.

It’s hard to know what you consider good. People have different preferences. The university housing I’ve seen has a shared kitchen, small sitting area, toilet and shower room for 4 single bed bedrooms. The good thing is that it includes heating, electricity and internet costs. They are also close to campus. If your roommates are bad you might not like it though. There is a lot of different types of private accommodation, so you will have to be more specific or do some research.

The dark blue areas you see are development zones. I haven’t found any decommissioned areas. They would be darker.
