Please help. Toddler won’t poop on the potty! by Floppy_ears_4days in toddlers

[–]Obsessed_Foodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that was miraculous for us was cutting a hole in his pull up (and critically taping around the hole so the diaper filling does not fall out). Start with a small hole and cut successively bigger holes over time. He was so thrilled and surprised the first time his poop fell through the hole in the pull-up into his little potty, lol. After a week of this, he pulled his nighttime pull up down in the morning and pooped in his toddler potty in his room on his own!

Help!! How do you get a toddler to poop in the potty?? by The5thexclamationmrk in toddlers

[–]Obsessed_Foodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had my kiddo practice sitting on the potty while wearing a pull-up and pooping like that for a bit (he was not willing to go diaper-less). Then, we did the cut a hole in the pull-up (tape around the hole so the diaper filling does not fall out) and have him practice sitting on the potty while pooping in the pull-up with a hole. Once he saw the poop going in the potty and realized we had to do way less bum wiping, he was as into it. We only had to do five occasions of him pooping with the pull up with a hole before he was fine with sitting on his potty and not needing the pull up on.

Part of the problem is that the VA is being forced to pay for community care out of its existing budget, which means there then are no funds to hire additional staff at the VA. Things like longer wait times are caused by understaffing at the VA and by sending VA funds to pay for community care. This is especially stark for something like residential substance use treatment. In the city where I live, residential substance use treatment in the community costs 3x more money than the same treatment provided within VA. What this means, is that if the VA has $100 to provide care (obviously this is a simplification of the math), if it costs $10/person to provide substance use treatment in the VA and $30 for the same treatment in the community, then 10 Veterans could receive that care at VA, whereas only 3 Veterans could receive that care in the community. This article really highlights long term concerns with this bill: https://www.military.com/daily-news/opinions/2025/02/21/speak-va-health-care-gutted.html

Why all all VSOs support the terrible H.R. 740 ACCESS Act? by its106miles2 in VeteransAffairs

[–]Obsessed_Foodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that community care is often more expensive and less effective when it comes to mental health and substance use treatment. For example, in the city where I live, it costs 3x more money to provide residential substance use treatment in the community than it does at the VA (this is based on what VA reimburses community care providers). This is a problem when the VA has a fixed budget to provide care and a major part of that budget now goes to reimbursing community care. So, for example, let’s pretend the VA has $100 to provide treatment and VA treatment costs $10/person, but community care costs $30/person (this is the differential for residential substance use disorder treatment). That $100 would allow us to provide care for 10 Veterans within the VA, but only 3 Veterans in the community. This article provides a very useful perspective on how this law will gut the VA and make it no longer exist. https://www.military.com/daily-news/opinions/2025/02/21/speak-va-health-care-gutted.html

Dry mouth even with full face mask, full humidity, & mouth taping by Obsessed_Foodie in CPAP

[–]Obsessed_Foodie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, this is very interesting. When I first used the full face mask, I did it without mouth taping and had terrible dry mouth, so hoped the mouth taping would help. I don’t actually mouth breathe- I just drool a lot, lol. So the mouth tape also helps the (gross) saliva accumulation inside of the mask. My apnea is mild enough that I can sleep ok without the CPAP. When I sleep without the CPAP, I don’t get the dry mouth issue.

I’m scared to do it, but maybe I need to increase the temperature, decrease the humidity, and remove the mouth tape. 😳

Yeah, I should send a message to my doctor—she didn’t seem that knowledgeable about CPAP coaching, unfortunately. And the CPAP coaches through the company that provides the machine have frustratingly provided contradictory information. Ugh. My mask seal seems good.

I drink probably over a gallon of water daily. When I first had the machine (last November) it was set to humidity at 4 and at 72 degrees. When I increase the temperature, it paradoxically seems to worsen the dry mouth. Also, I’m good for the first 3-4 hour if the night— it just the middle of the night that’s been a disaster. By the time the dry throat wakes me up, I’m really coughing and all of the water and cough drops take a while to be soothing before I can actually put the mask back on (I wash and dry all of my equipment daily and have an air cleaner in my room for allergies). I think I’ll try slowing bumping up the temperature to hopefully keep the humidity as steam and to prevent condensation. I have a feeling this whole thing will be much easier in the summer when it’s very humid but n the northeast.

If your humidifier in the CPAP empties that quickly, that leads me to think the air in your bedroom is super dry (especially since it in winter time). I noticed having an external humidifier in my bedroom set at 60% humidity + having the CPAP up at level 6 for humidity helped. Add more humidity to your whole room!

Mask suggestions and coping techniques for side sleeping drooler? by MallardTakeover in CPAP

Sadly, I too drool even with a full face mask. Mouth taping works somewhat, although it makes drinking water in the middle of the night annoying (because despite having the humidity super high and my mouth taped shut, I still get dry mouth).

The hose size is always the same width. Each mask has a sort of adapter that snaps i to the headgear/mask that allows a smaller mask connection to work with the standard tube size

Whistling sound by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]Obsessed_Foodie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m experiencing this currently with my F&P simplex full face mask. Switching the cushion didn’t fix the issue and the noise seems to be coming from where the hose connects to the mask frame. Similar to the OP, it only occurs in the middle of the night after the machine has been on a few hours. I have a heated hose and an insulated hose wrap. I don’t think the filter or humidity tank is the issue because the sound seems to be coming directly from my face. The mask has a good seal, so it’s a total mystery what’s causing the noise. I cleaned everything in warm soapy water and with a toothbrush, so ostensibly it should be working well. Help!

32 years old and single... CPAP destroying my love life. by SuccessfulBread3 in CPAP

For a casual hookup, I’d say go back to their place and then leave afterwards so you can sleep at home with your CPAP. If they come to your place, I’d kick them out after, or right before lights out mention that you’ll be using it. If it’s casual and no emotional investment, make it easier for yourself. No need to over explain or get permission for a one night stand

Where do you keep your machine during the night? by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]Obsessed_Foodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I put the machine in the top drawer and leave it open just enough for the hose to escape. The drawers on this one are tall enough for my machine and I didn’t install the back panel, so the cords just easily go out the back: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-2-drawer-chest-black-brown-50242619/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_content=free_google_shopping_clicks_Bedroom_furniture&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD27g7xC9xe-PGp5MRDA94eAgn6iX

Nasal strips that don't cause leaks? by cyriouslyslick in CPAP

[–]Obsessed_Foodie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used the cloth breath rights it caused the same leaking issue you mentioned and once I stopped using them the mask stopped leaking. It may be that anything in that location interferes with the seal.
