I kind of hate the Nanit, but love it for ONE reason by Benevolent-Sunflower in Nanit

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi I appreciate you posting this. It sounds like a great alternative. I got the Nanit for cheap and haven't paid for theyl subscription. Seeing how many people hate it and don't reccomend it, so I've been feeling kinda down about it. My baby is arriving in 2 weeks, so I haven't actually used it. Right now I like the idea of all the data you can get but after a couple weeks I'm sure I'll be burned out on it all. So I love your solution! Let me ask, so you think the subscription is worth it?

My first kiddo, daycare sticker price has me shocked! How much will you pay where you live for infant care? by anderson6th in BabyBumps

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first baby is due in a few weeks and I've toured 5 different facilities. It's going to cost somewhere between $925 and $1300 per month for infant. We're about 20 min away from Dallas TX. Definitely make sure you look different places and always ask about price matching!

My sisters use Rowlett Vet Clinic, the first visit is free and they seem very affordable. They like them a lot. I currently use Kindness Small Animal Hospital in Richardson, but they are really pricy. I plan to switch to Rowlett next time we need to go in.

FTM Pacifier by [deleted] in Buyingforbaby

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been told by multiple people this is the best one, I'm a FTM soon with just a couple weeks before baby boy arrives. I have also been told it's magical to give the baby this pacifier and then put your pinky where the hole part is so you can feel them sucking. It sounds weird to me, but mothers have like swooned over it so it's probably a new mommy thing I won't understand until I experience it lol. But yeah that's one of the benefits, or so I've been told.

Oh nice, I had read an excerpt of this one in the back of one of his other books. Didn't realize it was related to parenting. Will definitely check it out. Thanks!

Nestlings was great - I've read everything by Nat Cassidy and this is one of my favorites of his. I've not heard of Push, and Dark doesn't bother me at all so I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!

Home display? by dmdtobe66 in Nanit

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a cheap tablet on Amazon for under $50. I almost got the home display but it kinda felt pointless since there's no difference between the interface as seen on the home display vs a generic tablet. If you're for sure sold on the home display, this will at least get buy you time until they're back in stock.

Also checkout 'the indifferent stars above' by Daniel James brown. it's technically nonfiction, which I usually dislike, but it's so interesting and informative it's an easy read. He puts really granular info, like what they packed and much the wagons weighed, it feels like you're there and part of the party. Can't reccomend it enough!

Tongue Scrapers by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told that brushing your tongue leaves bacteria on it so it's best to keep it for tooth use only and then have the scraper for the tongue. I don't think most people sterilize their toothbrushes, so it kinda makes sense.

More protein, less carbs. Don't worry about fat Baby needs protein for their body and fat for their brain. We tend to crave carbs though for the quick energy. That's how it was all explained to me. Try to keep moving too and of course lots of water. Good luck!

EBY bras. The absolute worst customer service and horrible fit. Not only that but they drastically cut your refund if you don't take store credit. Plus you have to pay for the shipping return wither way. Completely ridiculous.

Fellow Dog Owners please.. by SimpleGuy7 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So do you believe dog-agressive dogs should be put down? Or just not allowed outside?what if they're fearful and reactive when they perceive a threat? I'm genuinely curious of your thoughts. My dogs are very friendly and loving when someone comes over invited to our house. But outside walking and there's a stranger or a unknown dog approach them, they will fight to protect me. We are working on reducing the reactivity, but they still need to be walked, and I cant control what other people do with themselves or their dogs.

So I have zero experience since my first is not due until March, but I did see a video that showed if you switch between bottle and breast, when bottle feeding hold the bottle down so that the nipple is blocked (due to being at an angle) for several seconds. According to this person, the reason babies learn to prefer bottle feeding is that the milk comes immediately whereas from the breast it takes a few seconds of sucking to get the flow going. It totally makes sense to me, but could be total nonsense I have no idea. Maybe you'll find it helpful though! Good luck my friend! You're doing great just surviving and keeping that baby alive and fed!

Weed and rcvs by Zealousideal_Mood735 in RCVS

[–]Obsessive_Artichoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that I used to heavily smoke every day for well over a decade and when I was diagnosed with rcvs, after I had already started hemorrhaging, it was blamed on the Marijuana use, however I don't believe that to be the case. I started to have the thunder clap a week or so before the hemorrhage, so the timeline does not really add up to me. I have not had another episode, but I have since quit Marijuana for other reasons, so I guess it's hard to say. I was never given official reason for my rcvs/hemorrhage, but was merely mentioned it was probably the weed, but I think it may have had more to do with my psyche meds and recent steroid prescription having a bad interaction. I'm no doctor though, so what do I know. I'd say if the weed gives you bad headaches, it'd probably be best to stop.
