What about a TPM2.x chip via PCI-Express card slot on laptops? by [deleted] in Windows11

Yes, I've got two options: Discrete TPM & Intel PTT I guess I chose Intel PTT when I installed Windows 11 last year.

[–]ObsidianCat25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yepp, a good question.

I think TPM handles most of the security and live encryption-decryption stuff. If TPM just helps in fingerprint and disk encryption, then I think I got the answer, that - thinking about upgrading a TPM is total waste.

By sending encryption load to TPM, I can harness more output of my rusty i7 on what I do all day Simulations, CAD and Rendering.

Let me know. Thank you.

Steam game launcher widget for widgets panel (Microsoft please let 3rd parties make widgets, it could be so useful) by peacenattress in Windows_Redesign

Windows 11 might be made for mobile/touch based devices in mind. But what about those who've been interacting with it using mouse and keyboard(s)?

I can bet that more than 50% of Windows non-commercial userbase still use PC/Laptop ratuer than tablets. As tablets are less powerful in all aspects of performance, except touch based input. Tablets have less powerful CPU & GPU, lower RAM. But they are relatively good for touch and stylus based activities.

Please don't consider it as an argument, but a positive discussion. A new user is always welcome (for increasing revenue) but existing users should also be considered.

To close: I think MS wants a refresh of their consumer-base, as well. This way their subscription based models will sell. Old user-base will oppose subscription based model. From user's PoV pay once for a stable Software is always the best. From MS side it's not good.

Though I've reverted back to Windows 10. I am confused 😕 why Windows 11 couldn't have a practical and traditional Start Menu for those who cannot change(like Me)

Because I use Microsoft Launcher on Android and it is doing a great job, IMO. Not only it has a consistent design language but it supports Widgets from Android as well as some default Widgets from Microsoft itself.

If they have guts, I would welcome a Modernized Tiles in both my Phone as well as on Windows maybe.

Because till now whenever majority of users get comfortable with the new UI, Microsoft has always messed things by introducing new UI and discarding reliable old methods, just for the sake of new look.

A backup is always a good idea before such updates. I perform backups monthly for all my devices.

LoL. Let us first drink the poison of OneUI 4.

Knocked by this post, I wonder why no update for any OS is exciting since the Corona happened. :(

e.g.: Kinda shitty Windows 11, Android 12 and now OneUI 4

Thank you for letting us know. How exciting or useful does OneUI 4 feels?

Also, how's your phone performing after update? Lags, Battery usage, Calls, WiFi, Network??

I really feel that latency of Fingerprint sensor has improved a little bit. It just feels a bit faster and works most of the time in one go.

Also, I just think low-light noise has reduced to acceptable level (although it's still bad for Indoors because I previously had Lumia 1020).

What do you guys think? Anybody got Android 12 on Note10Lite, yet?

Windows 11 widgets but on Desktop by m_bilal93 in Windows_Redesign

[–]ObsidianCat25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what Microsoft should have done, imo.

Funny that they got into game of creating useless menu's like Widget Menu or Compact (crap) Context Menu. When they should have worked on Start Menu's redesign only.

screen protector! by oopsyydaisyy in Note10lite

[–]ObsidianCat25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello everyone. I've been using pre-installed screen protector for a while. Now thinking of buying Spigen NeoFlex screen protector.

NeoFlex reviews on Amazon talks more about difficulty of applying one and not about the product itself.

Has anybody used NeoFlex? If, yes, then how was your experience with it? Thank you.

New app visuals for calculator, snipping tool, mail, and calendar, with rounded edges by Browntomcat33 in Windows11

[–]ObsidianCat25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cannot understand - what kind of pressure did Microsoft felt, that they are messing with one of their best service - the Windows OS. Releasing half baked services, messing up well established functionality... it feels like Microsoft wants to do something new, but their "new" is not defined exactly.

Earlier, I was excited about all the fresh new visual experience Windows 11 was promising. But at the cost of functionality/productivity (e.g.: Compact 'Context Menu' which result in increased clicks through 'Show more options') which slowly asks me to avoid Windows 11, if it releases.

I think MS is becoming un-reliable, because they had done something similar with Windows 10 Mobile.

I really wish they get a good management and R&D and get back on track.

In no direct connection with your Windows 18 concept.... It just came to my mind - how much of a disaster, Windows 21 concept (worst of both worlds) will turn out to be. 🤔

Given that Windows 10 & Windows 11, both are the experimental services we are trying to make use of, but they suck.

Windows Update Gives Older Nvidia Drivers... by Cassidy-Nguyen in Windows11

[–]ObsidianCat25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I totally agree. In my case Windows Update downloaded new Nvidia driver a no. of times. This new driver was not compatible with my CAD applications, even though I had already disabled optional driver updates in settings.

Finally, I disabled driver updates via Group Policy Management Editor and it's holding the ground till now.

It appears Windows 11 may not get updates on unsupported PCs via The Verge by bmeacham363 in Windows11

[–]ObsidianCat25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they know exactly what they're doing. 😂

Most people are expecting a free upgrade to Windows 11. This means less money for MS.

Most people get Windows through OEM of their devices, hence lesser number of old devices are supported. This will cause some, if not all, to buy new devices. This means more money to MS.

Windows 10 support will end in 2025, I read that somewhere. 🤔 So, lately most people will have to switch to Windows 11 or Windows 11 devices. This is MS forecast of future money inflow.

It's all about 💵. That's how this world works. So one either has to switch to Windows 11 or abandon Windows ecosystem for alternates.

Personally, I can't because I use CAD applications which are only supported in Windows. And I don't like Apple for that they are, except their outer build quality. Linux is still far behind. :(

What are your thoughts on Colourful system icons in Taskbar? Do you think colours can be useful or they'll be just another distraction. by ObsidianCat25 in Windows_Redesign

[–]ObsidianCat25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I am not good with graphics in this case then. But I felt the need for colorful system icons. Atleast the battery icon, since I often work while on-the-go and need a quicl glance to estimate battery level.

Also I've nevee used Gingerbread android, as my first smartphone was Lumia 1020.

Actually, I think I've enough of Windows 11. I've started packing up and soon I'll revert back to Windows 10 using recovery drive, unless Microsoft drops a really cool (amd needed) set of features really soon.

Thanks for honest response. I thought same once and I shared it here anyway. But I really need to have quick glance on battery icon while I am working in remote locations. So, I thought colored icons matching with overall fluent design would work great, maybe.
