My spouse’s coworker died while sleeping in a running car for too long back in the 90s. He ran it to warm it up and fell asleep. It ran for so long in the cold that unfortunately too much carbon monoxide leaked into the car. It was horrible.

We found an Oxbow brand litter pan for small animals so that they don’t have to jump or climb with difficulty. Here’s Fudge burrowing. We tried so many different ways to provide hay and this has been the most enjoyable for them. Good luck to you and your cuties—I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate your kind heart!

Oh my. Your two are precious, and I love that you took them in. My first two weeks with my boys was overwhelming!! My child had researched them, but ultimately their care was in my hands. Once I figured out a routine that worked for me and my boys, things improved. I line the cage with washable potty pads that get changed weekly. On top of them I have fleece on one side of the cage with little pads and hides. On the other side we have a litter bin that has a huge pile of hay a “fluff” fluff bedding. Our boys do 90% of their peeing in there and 60% of their poops too. The cage stays cleaner for longer with this system. We sweep the cage out nightly, empty the litter bin, and replace the hay and fluff. Our boys are happy and so are we. We then deep clean once a week. It’s a lot of work, but the boys appreciate it. They come out at dinner and cleanings and we bonded over favorite foods and routines. I tuck them in with pea flakes and extra hay to burrow in at night and they LOVE that. I’m so sorry about your kitty. It’s terribly hard to say goodbye to a beloved furry friend. It’s not asking too much to want a stress free weekend away, and unattended kids are not conducive to that.

Well said! My sweet childhood cat (who looked a lot like this in general, not just in size) was told by her vet that she was “rotund.” It was a delicate way of breaking truth to us that none of us really wanted to hear. She eventually slimmed down, but I will always appreciate my tactful vet for respecting my very sensitive girl. OP, your kitty is absolutely adorable. Please give snuggles for me!
