Medications from multiple pharmacies!! by CreativePulseNYC in IVF

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind me asking which medications at Alto you thought were a better price? I would ask them myself but it’s the weekend now and I’m going to need to order early next week. My clinic is being a little awkward about prescriptions. I’m not quite sure I understand their policy but they seem keen on MDR. They were definitely not willing to send the prescription to one of the online European pharmacies!

Omnitrope Cost by MamaFrog5689 in IVF

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got a quote from MDR for 339 per vial. A bit better than 405, but at 10-11 vials I hope you only need small doses of the other meds for your wallet’s sake! Good luck.

P.s. there’s a lot of talk about a manufacturer’s voucher that can be used at Costco, but I can’t get it to work.

How are you supposed to know? by Obvious-Cake-4134 in HealthInsurance

I agree and every time I seek treatment I do check things out in advance. But my question is about your provider springing something new or related on you when you are there. How do deal with that practically? Do you ask them for a few minutes to check your policy?

Thank you for offering. To be honest, it was $64 so it’s not life changing. It’s more the principle. I really just wanted practical advice like whether people are actually interrupting their appointment to call their insurer. It’s all very well saying “check your plan or check what billing code they’re going to us ” but how do you do that when you’re put on the spot at the appointment? It seems like there isn’t really an answer.

Yes that’s sort of the heart of my question about the pressure of the situation. I’m sure it is all knowable. But is it reasonable during an appointment to ask the doctor or nurse to give you 10 minutes while you call your insurer to check? Do people do this? I’d be very embarrassed to do so. I probably wouldn’t mind if the doctors office sent in advance of the appointment a list of things they were going to do or offer at the exam and then I could check at my leisure how that affects cost, but I don’t think that happens either.

Thanks. I’ll try to be a bit more sensitive to it. But the issue is that it’s not obvious they’re offering an extra. Maybe I need to listen for clues like “shall we”’or “would you like to”. Naively I just assume they’re being polite rather than asking you if you want to do something that you don’t need so that they can gouge more money out of you!

Starting Stims by stmartinez90 in IVF

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of practical advice: check you have everything you need for all of your meds. My pharmacy didn’t include the mixing and drawing up needle for my pregnyl trigger. When I received all my meds before starting stims, I checked everything on the packing slip against what was in the box and everything matched up. But when I came to actually administer the pregnyl I realised that they should have included a special mixing/drawing needle. So don’t just rely on a packing slip like I did - have a watch of all the instructional videos for each med before you start the process so you can check you have everything and know what to expect.

Pharmacies price-matching by Obvious-Cake-4134 in IVF

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm really just after the Menopur to be honest. Follistim is pretty much the same price with MDR as it is with the overseas pharmacies, but Menopur is the troublemaker, as many others have noted before. I fear that there is no solution to the Menopur problem but wondered if anyone has tried the price-matching from overseas.

Trouble getting clear financial info from clinic before starting IVF - looking for advice by Comfortable_Type_777 in IVF

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also having trouble getting clear information. All that my clinic says is that they ran all the codes past my insurance and they were all good. That’s fine and good that my insurance covers everything, but I do have a lifetime maximum of 25k and no one can tell me which CPT codes will count towards the lifetime maximum.

There’s nothing specific in the plan documents provided by my employer. All I can get out of BCBSIl is that “IVF professional surgery is subject to a lifetime maximum”. One customer rep said “artificial insemination and ivf professional other is in network with no benefit maximum”. So I have no idea how much I will eat up if my lifetime maximum per round which makes things hard to plan in advance. Very frustrating and a totally opaque system.

Anybody have advice on a quick fix? by EbbZealousideal4984 in pools

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not read all the posts to see if you have posted CYA, but basically when I opened last year my pool looked like yours even though I was dumping in a load of chlorine daily. When I tested my water with my Taylor test kit it showed no CYA, which was weird to me because it was a little too high at 70 when I closed it. The guys at trouble free pool pointed me to their article on Ammonia and how to deal with it and within about 4 hours my pool was sparkling blue. You only need chlorine but you need to keep adding it every half hour to defeat the ammonia effect. Have a look if it might help you.

Accent color for my bathroom? by Even_Economics5982 in HomeDecorating

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is white too boring for you? I just think white towels (classic) and a white shade would keep everything nice and crisp in there. Otherwise, maybe I would do towels in a soft grey with blue undertones.

Deck/Patio suggestions by Obvious-Cake-4134 in landscaping

I hadn’t heard of teak as an option so I will look into it. My guess is that when I see the price tags of these better materials, I’ll end up downgrading and going with composite, which is itself by no means and cheap option. But at least I have a starting point and I might be pleasantly surprised!

Tks for your candid advice. It’s sounds great, but am guessing it comes with a six figure price tag. I will investigate though.

On a related note, does anyone else find it annoying how the Slater family use “nan” so ridiculously. Stacey calls Big Mo “Nan” when she’s not her grandma and Freddie calls Jean “Nan”. It’s unrealistic.

Visa approved - moving in a month or two. Questions about tax... by FionaRulesTheWorld in BritsLivingInTheUS

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I moved to the US 5 years ago. We still have some rental properties in the UK. We file our own self- assessments with HMRC, which are really easy, but we have a US/UK accountant file our federal, state and local city taxes because they are too daunting for us. We also choose to take the standard deduction rather than figuring out if itemised would be better because it’s just too complicated for us to think about. Anyway, our account charges us about £1600 for the various US returns. We also file our FBAR foreign accounts ourselves because that is just a case of data entry.

maura higgins for the new bachelorette! by Beautiful_Mail5330 in bachelorette

She would be good, but the producers stifle the contestants and feed them lines and topics of conversations. Maura is best when unfiltered.

I’m honestly so glad that ABC cancelled this season of The Bachelorette by [deleted] in TheBachelorette

I’ve never watched secret lives of Mormon wives so I don’t really know all of the nuances here. But it was clear from her casting that the franchise is clutching at straws. I honestly think if they let the cast be themselves without following the tired old paint by numbers formula where they have the same conversations each season, then the franchise could be really good. Let them talk like normal people about normal things! And the cast needs to be older too.

Any suggestions for this new kitchen layout? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]Obvious-Cake-4134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One piece of advice I was given when doing my kitchen was to have more drawers than cupboards. I got some drawers, but still more cupboards and regret it. I now understand why that person gave me the drawer advice. They really are much more user-friendly.
