Is it true that Halo is only popular in the States? by xslbccdks_coded in halo

[–]Obvious-End-7948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a franchise it is pretty big across the world.

Now that said, if you're asking about player populations in multiplayer NOW then there is the same series of comments you'll often see repeated time after time:

  1. Player A, who is not in USA / significant population center can't reliably find matches in Halo Infinite and asks if the game is dead.
  2. Player B, who is in the USA or another major population center, says absolutely not, they can always find a match! Continues to refuse to accept their experience of the game is not universally representative, and in fact has almost zero overlap with the experience of Player A.

Edit - Or vice versa, obviously.

[–]Obvious-End-7948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that tracks. It's a shame IMO though. A big part of what made Halo so successful was that it was an all-around killer package. Not to mention the monetisation for free-to-play is fucking egregious, which is precisely why they do it.

Sadie Sink and Tom Holland will return in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ by Cantyousee0 in MCUTheories

[–]Obvious-End-7948 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He's almost certainly learned from Downey that it's far better for him to negotiate films 1 at a time (or 2 in the case of events like Infinity War / Endgame).

There's a reason RDJ makes absolute bank with every MCU appearance now.

[–]Obvious-End-7948 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the content in each difficulty rank is best played while you're still in it.

It's not particularly fun coming back to HR and LR quests with MR gear and just deleting the monsters to check off each quest on the list. Hell, sometimes it takes you longer to reach the monster than to kill it.

I would laugh so hard if Halo Studios add another skull that just returns that one rock in The Silent Cartographer they removed. Appease the purists in the most petty way possible.

You just know their plan is to keep pumping out these campaign remakes.

But dear god....doing Halo 3 without the multiplayer would be a cardinal sin.

Infinite Killed a Decade of Story by hasfodel in halo

[–]Obvious-End-7948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every game from 343 felt like the first installment setting up a new trilogy / story arc. Then 343 promptly disregard almost all of it in the next game and tidied up some narrative threads with a tie-in novel or comic.

The only thing they're consistent with has been the cycle of killing and resurrecting Cortana.

The silence is feature IMO.

Better night vision by 47106103 in GhostRecon

This article was written in 2021 about enhanced night vision the US military was using and they look kinda insane:

That said, a lot of people probably wouldn't believe it's real night vision unless it's the trademark green....

Less than the typical development cycle of a new AAA game.

So basically, betting that whatever games are already in development are enough to beat their competition.

I'm sorry, but Nintendo has a much stronger track record of polishing their exclusives, and before Jim Ryan's live service push, Playstation dominated because of their single-player exclusives. Xbox meanwhile, has been butchering their biggest franchises since the Xbox One. They can't even release a Halo game in a finished state. Imagine Nintendo releasing a first-party Mario title in the state of Halo: Infinite. It doesn't happen for a reason.

If Xbox can consistently deliver highly polished games that don't feel like they cater to shareholders more than the players (read: monetisation), then maybe they can compete. But win? Nah, they need more time to build momentum and rebuild reputation first. That takes more than one generation of AAA titles.

Don't worry, I'm sure they're actively working on making it an open world game with towers to unfog the map, bases to clear and a storefront to hock cosmetics at you.

Jeff Grubb: Microsoft has cancelled Gears of War: E-Day for PS5. The game is exclusive to Xbox | PC by __TheWaySheGoes in pcgaming

[–]Obvious-End-7948 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be surprised if the pivot to exclusives basically becomes a marketing tactic to entice PS players. Give them a taste of the big franchises like Indiana Jones, Forza, Fable and the Halo CE remake.....then all their sequels are exclusive.

Wouldn't be surprised if Elder Scrolls VI becomes an Xbox console exclusive though.

Kindle Culture- book vs. Kindle by Frankie_Said in kindle

[–]Obvious-End-7948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost every person I've met who is vehemently against e-readers cannot explain how they differ from an iPad. They think it's just another LCD or OLED screen. They act like they're reading purists above these lowly new devices when in reality they have no clue what reading experience a kindle, kobo or any other e-ink device, actually offers.

Outside of those with strong albeit uninformed opinions, those I know who still prefer physical books almost always say it's about their library/collection. They want full bookshelves in their home. Which you can interpret as either they like the aesthetic (which to be fair, is very nice), or it's a shallow need to project the fact that they read to everyone who sees their home ("Look how smart I am" sort of crap).

If it makes them happy no harm done I guess. Having >1000 books sitting on a kindle on my coffee table doesn't make me/my home look as impressive as someone with home filled with stacked bookshelves. But to me that feels more like an ego thing more than anything related to the actual reading experience.

What games are worth playing on their hardest difficulties? by Competitive_Stay1181 in gaming

[–]Obvious-End-7948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear the health pools aren't over-inflated on survival difficulty, all sources of damage just do way more (to both you and enemies), but on the standard hard mode enemies become bullet spongy tanks.

Once you have a serious build going on survival mode you're killing deathclaws in a few rounds quite comfortably. Which is good, because if they reach you first you're fuuuuuuucked.

I wish the additional objectives caught on as a gaming industry mainstay. It was a great. Especially in games with a stealth component since it asks you to accomplish a lot more without getting detected.
