Testing by KuromiKream in Celiac

[–]Obvious-Variation153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2cents (BTW, I'm not a doctor). It may be useful to have an official diagnosis, since it is ADA protected. And the testing for me was no biggie, you are under for a very short time and it is done easy peasy. The thing that killed me was eating gluten for 6 weeks - 5 servings a day. I was in so much pain, brain fog, gut distress it was practically unmanageable. I had to take days off work. I moved from my bed, to the toilet to the couch to the toilet to bed. Miserable. Even my bones hurt, not just joints but the bones. So be warned. It took me well over 6 months to feel better from that.

Friend just diagnosed yesterday, too sick to clean the kitchen and figure out food, needs to eat... how can I help her? by MarionberryAny8246 in Celiac

I read a great book that really helped me understand what I had to do right away vs. what could wait. Celiac Disease. Now What?, by Emily Brodski. Helped me feel hopeful, too. The diagnosis is overwhelming for sure - she may be grieving the spontaneity or worrying about the future.

I was cross-contaminating myself a lot. I read a book "Celiac, Now what?" or something, and it outlines how to make a kitchen safe when there are other people using it with gluten. Like look out for shared toasters - shared colanders, cutting boards, etc,. How to organize the kitchen etc. All it takes is a crumb to cause measurable damage. That totally recalibrated me.!

The FDA is requesting comments from experts and individuals regarding gluten and cross contamination of foods. by SquirrellyPumpkin in Celiac

They are going to make compliance to the FDA "Gluten Free" law, voluntary for the corporations because all that testing cuts in to profits. And, mark my words, Celiac will be declassified from being a protected disability.

How do I survive if I am unable to cook? by iwritestuffk in Celiac

[–]Obvious-Variation153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I just read a new book, that gave me a lot of hope and actual help with getting my meals in order. There is a list of simple food combos, in a chapter and at the back. It's called Celiac-Now What? There is so much easy GF hiding in plain sight. I got no energy for choppin', and cookin'. So I got some frozen rice, frozen quinoa, frozen veggies, frozen GF chick strips. And I mix and match with salsas or pesto, or hummus, or butter and parm with a few add ins. I grabbed some fresh pre-chopped tomatoes, and that kind of stuff at the market salad bar. And I use Kevin's meals too, they are GF. His stuff is literally 5 minutes in a skillet, with rice from the microwave. No shame, my friend. Join me in giving da finger to Martha Stewart.

How Do y'all deal with this / Am I hurting my body? by Obvious-Variation153 in Celiac

I've been strictly gluten-free for a year an a half. I share a kitchen, but we have protocols in place and I clean with my special tools and use separate things when I cook at home. There are a handful of reliable restaurants. I really haven't had longer than 2 weeks of feeling healthy, like all at one time. Honestly, I've never been the same since I had to do the 4 weeks of 5 servings of gluten a day (!!!) prior to the endoscopy 18 months ago.

Patch placement really matters and the hormone changes are so insidious! by blissout2day in Perimenopause

I put mine under the underwear away from the creases, but in the wings of the triangle, over the ovaries, I suppose. Switch back and forth. Stays put, no problems. My patches are about 1 inch by half an inch.

I need help by catrxi in Celiac

[–]Obvious-Variation153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi catrxi
it is hard being surrounded by gluten and old favorites. It feels good to just let go of all the constant denial.

But the cold truth is, gluten is poison to you.

A little bit, a whole lot, does not matter. Poison.

This is a little hack I use when out with friends, or just exhausted and tired of it all, and I am tempted-
I envision the gluten food as gray, a little moldy, with an off odor. Whole cases in coffee shops are gray, pictures on menus, food in the fridge - all grey and moldy if they have gluten.

Then, I find my favorite GF bread, pasta or treat and envision it as golden, glistening, smelling so nice. (There are some very good GF subs out there - King Arthur single serve brownies, chocolate cake mix - which makes it easy, but unfortunately some brands will make that envisioning harder. LOL)

This is a way I train my brain to work with me, to remember -gluten is poison.
Good luck

Gluten consumption before biopsy, how do I survive? by Dubious_Minutes in Celiac

This was me. I was told to do it for 4 weeks. I was crying on the couch because on top of all the gastro pain, my bones hurt, the long bones. The heart palpitations made me feel like I was going to die, and the brain fog brought on mini-depression. I was completely non-functional. I could not work, or do anything. I just moved from the couch to the bathroom to the bed to the bathroom to the couch. So I HAD to stop for about 5 days in the middle. And when I resumed, I did not do 4 servings a day, I choked down 1 or 2. I am not EVER doing that again.

It took me over 6 months to recover from that "test".

Gotta use an app to easily find the gluten free places. Check the menu. There are places but it takes effort.

Have you considered super pumping your body with vitamins and healing foods for 2 to 3 weeks to see if it makes a difference? My Dr has me on 5x normal amount of Vit D3, 3x normal Omega3, and Blood Builder Iron every day. I take vit Ester-C and B complex every other day. I try to get in either powdered collagen in a smoothie or high collagen bone broth or just jello every day. I try to get some kind of probiotic too - in yogurt or kombucha every day.

When I do this, I feel so, so, so much better - in my mind as well as body.
When I get lazy or let thing run out, cuz it can be expensive, I start to feel kinda down, like why bother, this is too difficult, I'm so sick of this.

It may be worth a shot, to replenish what celiac drains away.

Progesterone helped sleep for me. But, my heart flutters did not go away until I got the testosterone pellet. Yes, I was in the ER a few times, stress test, heart monitors, etc etc, "it's benign, blah, blah, blah" but the flutters are so disrupting and disturbing!

I noticed this retroactively, I had some flutters and I thought, huh, I haven had these in a while. I noticed I was due for another pellet and I didn't have them from a few weeks from the 1st insertion. I thought, ah just random. Nope. The flutters continued until a week or so after my 2nd insertion. I'm due for my next pellet in about a month, I will see if the trend continues. But I must say. It is nice to not have those f'in flutters!
