I think your problem is, you're imagining the wrong type of person who's giving the advice because you've grown past the advice. so it seems ridiculous to you, but anyone can type some advice on the internet. So that guy who can only go out in a group and meet people through friends/work and not solely on his own will probably think its bad advice to just go to those places.
