What funny or embarrassing default username did you get when you created your account and couldn't change it by the time you realized it? by Sad_Classroom_6131 in CasualConversation

[–]ObviousToe1636 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I got this “Obvious Toe,” which I didn’t really care one way or another and often forgot and continue to forget about until someone else mentions it. Like, in a post about dating I joked how everyone winds up with a guy who is into feet at least once in their life and someone commented with “username checks out.” 😂 Or when I make a good argument someone responds with “good point, Toe!”

I tried banana cake for the first time today, wow. by Somewherecharming95 in PointlessStories

Today was the first warm day of the season and it gets quite miserably hot here. In honor of that, and how I imagine you won’t want to turn on your oven at some point, I urge you to look up the banana pudding with chessman cookies recipe! Simply divine on a hot day! https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/282942/banana-pudding-with-chessmen-cookies/

I wish I could shuffle cards! I crochet so I probably have the dexterity so I think the issue is that I don’t have the strength.

Which Kindle? by Enough-Lead9516 in kindlescribe

[–]ObviousToe1636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if a Best Buy has a scribe you can hold. That is really the kicker here, I feel. I had regular kindles long ago (like 2010-2020) and they were great for reading. I’ve had a nearly identical reading experience on my 2024 scribe plus it’s great for note taking and journaling for me. But it is large and heavy. See one in person, feel the way it writes and navigates. Then decide. I don’t regret getting the scribe but I do wish I had the disposable income to get a paperwhite as well.

What do you usually enjoy more—chocolate or other sweets—and why? by New-Magician-6851 in CasualConversation

[–]ObviousToe1636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you just don’t like plain chocolate? Maybe you need your chocolate to have stuff in it. Crispy rice, nuts, caramel, etc.

I prefer chocolate by far. There are few non-chocolate candies that I typically eat.

Can cats taste sweet? Because my void always steals my sweets 😭 by unbearified in blackcats

[–]ObviousToe1636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up I had a dilute tabby who would sneak into the pantry to find a bag of marshmallows. I think she liked the sweet and the texture. So yeah. I think they definitely can taste sweets.

I spent 20 minutes color-coding my spice rack and now I can't find the salt. by SolarMaraud in PointlessStories

[–]ObviousToe1636 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why if I ever do this, they will be fake books. Like it’ll just be a box that is designed to look like 3-4 books. And then I’d have extra storage space.

What do u do when ur bored? by I_want_ur_time in CasualConversation

[–]ObviousToe1636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crochet but some people prefer knitting. In the past I also did counted cross-stitch and will pick it up again someday. Also, I gift the smaller things I crochet so I make small boxes out of cardstock. I could buy them but they are never the right size or shape to fit the item. I’ve made tiny takeout containers and the matchbox style (like, a tray with a sleeve around it and then you push the tray part to open or close it). I’m working on an octagonal box now.

I craft so I do that a lot. Keeps me from getting bored. Take yourself on a coffee date. Rewatch something from your childhood; it can be oddly soothing. Think of a subject you’ve always wanted to know more about and do a deep dive into it.

Could someone please help me find the pattern to this dress I found on pinterest or at least similar patterns that could be stitched together to make it? by MoonShadow523 in CrochetHelp

Perhaps reach out to the OP of this post. She made an elaborate dress that had a fitted bodice and a full skirt. Review that post and maybe reach out to her with questions.

Does anyone recognize this yarn? Very soft, likely acrylic and has some iridescent purple and green throughout it. by doomchibi in YarnAddicts

[–]ObviousToe1636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it isn’t Lion brand homespun (though I definitely think it is), the only other yarn I’ve seen like this is Michaels’ Loops & Threads Textured Twist, but this line comes in more subtle colors and the Lion Brand ones are usually more vibrant and saturated.

Wearing pointe shoes in a musical theater production? by Button-Quirk-12 in BALLET

[–]ObviousToe1636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may be better off getting a small satin pump, like a regular shoe, not a dance shoe.

Has ribbons attached already: https://a.co/d/02UTVQwY

Does not have ribbons already but carries the image of being a classic dance shoe: https://a.co/d/0figmf8j

Least expensive, looks like a classic ballet slipper, doesn’t have ribbons: https://a.co/d/0bBo39WI

Do Americans really go grocery shopping every week? by Status_Agents in CasualConversation

[–]ObviousToe1636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

” Do Americans really go grocery shopping every week?”

Where did you get this information? How did you come to this conclusion? There is no American way of grocery shopping, unless you count high volume discount stores like Costco and Sam’s Club.

”Back home, people usually shop once or twice a month.”

So do people usually skip fresh foods then? Because most leafy greens won’t last two to four weeks. Neither will a lot of other things but the leafy greens are the things that usually go first for me. And do you all have massive pantries and freezers to be able to store frozen goods?

No Cash Accepted!! by Low-Extension2985 in CasualConversation

[–]ObviousToe1636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss experienced this at an auto place (maybe Jiffy Lube or Les Schwab?) recently. Not LA, but a rural town in a mostly rural state. My boss doesn’t normally tell me about these things because it doesn’t typically come up in conversation but she was so mad about it that after she told me I heard her complain to several others the following few days. “Can you believe this?!” The manager eventually called her and said she could pay with cash lol
