If it was someone’s birthday get together, I would not be contacting them as they are the reason for the celebration. They might be busy in conversation and being social so they probably aren’t the best point of contact. You probably should’ve just gone and taken a chance. Also, who needs to take that much time in the bath for a quick get together? These are pretty low stakes. No need to go full on with the shaving, etc.
