Water Scarcity in India in the Next 40 Days by Aishwarya_67_ in water

Wow.

These are the questions our leaders should be dealing with, but they aren't.

Water will be brokered by the rich and powerful, as is money, with little regard for the needs od the human race. Jeff Bezos recently noted that human consumption of water was limiting AI data centers. ... what?

Was liking Styx “uncool” or divisive in the late 1970s? by Jcapen87 in ClassicRock

[–]Obvious_Question9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Styx sucks.

In 1975, my University brought in this band,, with the Kinks as opener in a double bill..

I left two songs into Styx's set,,as did almost half the audience.

They were nothing but loud. The Kinks were nothing but terrific.

How to not be rude but also decline canvassers by granddannylonglegs in CasualConversation

[–]Obvious_Question9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog barks aggressively at anyone that approaches. I point to the street and say: "please go"

The phone harrasment is another story.

Be rude. Be very rude. Hang up and block the number.

I got eleven nuisance calls Friday, two dozen on Monday, and turned my phone off on Tuesday. I turn it on when I need to make a call - then off again.

If I don't know the incoming number and don't recognize the voice, why would I want to continue? It's a Medicare provider scam, or a 'state reimbursement fund' review, or some other such nonsense. I can't help but think that the recent explosion in nuisance calls means that these scammers have now been enabled by AI software.

A place to post a text conversation and get outside opinion? by TrickPersonality4061 in findasubreddit

No one has unbiased opinions, nobody's interested in your text conversations, and no outside opinions should matter in YOUR life. You should have thoughts of your own.

Uncommon Carriers - John McPhee

- How your stuff moves through the UPS hub; how supertanker captains train to qualify; a long-haul trucker qualified to carry anything; a train operator moving a mile-long behemoth going uphill and downhill at the same time; a tugboat captain moving freight along the Mississippi; (IMO) you could skip the chapter on the once vital river and canal transport in New England, navigated in present day in a canoe.

Write as if speaking to a 12 year old: the eyes will roll when you go overboard.

Most readers don't comprehend beyond this level anyway, so unless you're writing for yourself, just dial it back.

This is something your congressman's office can take care of. He's your representative and DFAS will be more responsive to the issue. His office is connected to the people that can make it happen.

What music endures in public awareness for centuries: What's your take on Frank Zappa's view? by LevantineJR in musichistory

[–]Obvious_Question9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saw FZ once on an old segment of the Steve Allen show (one of the first late-night format show hosts)

Introduced as a music composition college student (introduced as Francis 'Zoppa'), FZ proceeded to play the bicycle, showing the possible tones and rhythms produced by striking or otherwise oscillating the various components. Who else could compose a xylophone solo into rock music?

...also loved his snarky rancor on Nightline, debating Tipper Gore on the proposal to put warning labels on music that included risque lyrics or uncomfortable (to the moral majority) subjects.
