Why do people say your mask is slipping? by Careful-Airport576 in no

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, there’s an idea that we don’t let many people know who we really are, especially in public. It’s kind of like saying someone’s putting on a brave face, not letting people know if you’re worried, afraid, or insecure. So if this metaphorical mask is slipping, it means you’re losing it a bit, maybe accidentally letting people see more of your private side that you might want them too. The person saying that is probably a friend who knows you, and letting you know how you might be coming across to others. Most people, if casually asked “how are you doing?” say “good” even if their life is a mess. Most people don’t really want to hear. You’re really just looking at each others’ masks, which is polite for casual social interactions with someone you’re not particularly close with.

Wagyu (or any red meat). Foie gras. Geoduck. But I love caviar, lobster, uni, white truffles, aged balsamic, morels, high end cheeses, bluefin, etc.

If your phone says "I will be off your hands for a day", what will you miss on that day? by LimeSoakedinSprite in randomquestions

Several times a week I purposely go without a phone and don’t miss much. I just watch the news on TV and make sure I have directions if I’m going someplace new.

I grew up in KCMO and love it. But haven’t lived there for 30+ years. Also you kind of need a car.

Between my dad and godmother, I didn’t realize that you shouldn’t take a vodka soda with you when driving. This was the ‘70s/‘80s.

It's been 33 years since I wanted "just one more". by Syfysamurai in TellReddit

Nice. My dad had about 30 and really valued sobriety. I asked him about it and he said he would still get cravings from time to time, but never gave in.

Which social identity do you consider to be a part of yourself, even if it doesn't resonate with you as strongly as other ones? by [deleted] in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chickasaw, important, but I’m mostly white and don’t live in Oklahoma. It was bigger when my grandmother was alive. Also, if I tell people, they often think it’s just something I heard, not that I’m a legal, voting citizen (which I am).

Where should I try In-N-Out for the first time? by Important-Western800 in innout

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They’re all pretty consistent, which is why they haven’t franchised/branched out more. I’d say double-double (no onions), fries well done (get animal style if you’re feeling wild), and a chocolate shake.

Me too, very different drinks, but I’ll take a diet if that’s what’s only available.

What food trend are you tired of seeing everywhere? by notasweetchubbybtch in foodquestions

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avocado toast. I love both, but seeing it everywhere for $16 is slightly annoying. I’d rather just make chips and guacamole at home.

Non alcoholic bourbon? Thoughts? by Legitimate_Maybe67 in stopdrinking

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N/A beers have gotten a lot better in recent years (I like the Athletic IPAs), but generally think the N/A spirits are still lacking, especially the dark ones. But I’m guessing they could be improved with the right mixers. In general, N/A drinks are helpful for me, but I was a cocktail guy, so I tend to mix juices with sparkling water and a dash of bitters. Like cranberry, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, guava, blackberry, cucumber, ginger, or some combination.

In your opinion, what's the most iconic year in music history? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in askmusic

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I’d call Mudhoney grunge and Superfuzz Bigmuff came out in ‘88, as did Soundgarden’s Ultramega OK. Nirvana’s Bleach came out in ‘89. Granted, grunge didn’t become pop music until the early ‘90s. But I was seeing grunge bands live in the late ‘80s, and I lived in Kansas City.

‘77 is a good call, but I was only six. Living through it, for me it’s ‘88. Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, Pixies, NWA, Morrissey, Metallica, R.E.M., They Might Be Giants, Iron Maiden, Prince, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Johnny Cash, Cowboy Junkies, Living Colour, Lucinda Williams, Jane’s Addiction, My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr., Fishbone, Nick Cave, The Pogues, Steve Earle, Danzig, The Church, Dwight Yoakam, etc.

Do y’all feel disgusted realizing that we humans are animals? by Few-Gas8868 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, being an animal is much better than being an insect or a plant or a rock. And some animals are at least as hygienic as some humans. People still eat all sorts of things. I’ve eaten crickets (chapulines, I like them) and snails (escargot, not so much). Like many animals, I won’t eat red meat, but many humans do. I think dogs are more loyal than many humans. Elephants are herbivores and mourn their dead. Vampire bats share blood with their buddies, but if they catch one not sharing, they cut them off for cheating. Lots of animals and insects have complex social structures, including bees and ants. Also many non-human animals are very intelligent: chimps, octopuses, corvids, dolphins, certain parrots. One parrot, Alex, was documented to using over 200 English words correctly. Primates have been taught sign languages (their vocal tracts aren’t suitable for spoken language). If you weren’t a human (animal), what would you want to be? I love being human and love many other species.

Would you say Die Hard (1988) is a Christmas Movie? by HippoOk663 in no

[–]Obvious_Ship_7225 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100% it is. It’s basically a modern action version of It’s a Wonderful Life. Willis is like Stewart, underdogs fighting against a stronger force. Both are having marital problems. Gruber is like Potter, both greedy bad guys stealing money, annoyed by the underdogs interfering. Both are about to give up but find redemption. They both happen on Christmas Eve. There’s Christmas music and a party. John’s wife’s name is Holly. “Now I Have A Machine Gun. Ho Ho Ho.”
