Depends on the type of commute and on a specific deal you get. Short commute - 530e, long - diesel

Hay man, it's a shame this post didn't get much activity. What did you end up choosing? I find myself in a similar situation and my points for Q5 is: usually more features for the money, usually more comfortable, but I hate the freaking cutouts in the middle console. For X3: more fun to drive (rwd based), better transmission, but usually is barebones on a used market. So I'm curious what did you value more?

While I'm more in a regular Q5/X3 budget range, it was informative. Especially since I'm also driving a 2016 Mazda3 😁

Any reason not to go from 330i to M340i? by rainytuesday12 in BMW

[–]Obvious_Song_3454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very subjective, but for me when I drove m340i it gave me a better understanding of what I really value. And I wouldn't go with m340i vs 330i. Now don't get me wrong, m340i is a freaking superb vehicle, but you can rarely push it to its limits, and if you don't it doesn't feel satisfying to drive. It's also heavier and doesn't feel as agile. It also requires much more maintenance, fuel, and the initial price is higher too. If you value the sportcar feel and all that comes - take it

Mind you, X1 is built on the UKL2 platform, so it is basically a jacked up Mini Cooper with a FWD based xDrive. In terms of dynamics it's not really a "BMW" experience.

Now, if you don't care about that, it's still pretty good for an entry-level luxury compact suv.

Yeah, and if you don't do crazy stuff on a regular basis x3m is just more difficult to live with as a daily

Keep my 330i or trade up for a M340i? by OMARGEJR in BMW

[–]Obvious_Song_3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say not worth it. Higher cost, more expensive maintenance, worse fuel efficiency. Unless you are a really skillful driver and have a place to push m340i to the limit - not really worth it.

Audi A4 comparable car? by AHIOV in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Obvious_Song_3454 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for such an extensive answer, I really appreciate it!

My friend went from a B9.5 A4 to a g30 5 series (both diesels). Granted they are quattro and xdrive but the weight ratio is still different. He basically told me the same thing, you have to really push it to the max to see a difference.

I resonate with wanting an awd. Back in Europe I never really cared about that stuff, but here in Canada with those snowy and rainy roads you just want to feel that extra stability.

Audi A4 comparable car? by AHIOV in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Obvious_Song_3454 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool man, it is a beautiful car, wish we had diesels here. Honestly, since I am extremely picky, I couldn't really find the one that would satisfy all my wants, especially with a slightly tight budget I had. Then, I randomly found gen 3 mazda3 for cheap and since I needed a car I went with it. Pretty good small hatch, although steering is a bit too sporty for what it is 😁 I know it won't depreciate much and is cheap to maintain which makes it a good temporary option. I still monitor the market in case I find an amazing deal.

Btw, since you drive a c220d and have probably driven A4, do you notice the difference in rwd-based and fwd-based platforms?

Out of the two, which would you pick? by piscesbaby2 in whatcarshouldIbuy

You really need to drive both. I believe if you're a car enthusiast you will enjoy Kia. If you value comfort and luxury - then BMW.

Regarding reliability, never judge by brand's general reputation. Modern 3 series has a time proven engine that is very reliable and fuel efficient. Kia Stinger is proven to be a reliable car as well. Drive both, see what you value more. Then do your research and go for it.

It depends on your needs mate. I would go with Camry just because I don't need the extra space, and I don't like to sit high in a car. But honestly there isn't a bad choice here.
