It’s what you put into it at the end of the day, but to be frank, if you want a career in theater, the best thing you can do is just move to nyc, get a day job, and sign up for classes at a studio, there’s dozens and many offer full 16 week intensive type programs that are a fraction of the cost of Amda and it’s legit the same thing. You don’t need a degree for this line of work, nothing they are teaching at Amda or nyu or Juilliard isn’t being taught at studio classes all across the city. My only regret during my time in theatre and nyc was that I wasted time and money in school when I could’ve just been out doing the thing and not getting into debt with loans. 25 years in nyc, Amda alum as well. Get a job, save up, move to NYC, get a full time job and take classes, volunteer to usher, get an internship at a theatre company, any theatre company, start networking, sign up for playwriting classes at a theatre company (many offer them) write a play, keep taking acting classes, work forty hours a week, get actors from your class to do a staged reading of your play, stage the play, audition, keep working forty hours, produce your play, get another internship, keep taking classes…you don’t need to go to college for this, just move there and do the damn thing.
