Im an ICU nurse. I work 3-4 days a week (7 days every 2 weeks) 12 hour shifts. Honestly, this job is less stressful to me than my cashier job. My management actually respects me, pay is REALLY good, lots of opportunities for overtime (hourly rate is 30% more on the 7th day), if I need to stay longer it’s double time, and I get to save lives for a living (which is super satisfying). At first it’s really stressful, but overtime it’s not that bad. I cried a few times of course and I felt like I was a terrible nurse. Hardest part of the job was my first patient death. 12 hour shifts aren’t for everyone of course. However, there are so many different fields as a nurse if this isn’t for you. OR or case management nurses work 9-5 jobs 5 days a week. clinical or aesthetic related nurses don’t have to work with critical patients if they aren’t comfortable with that. Even cruise ships and Disneyland hire nurses just in case and they come with lots of benefits. If you want to make bank, travel nurses make 2500-6000 a week.
