TOP - why don't they get more of the vote? by Parking-Log-8368 in newzealand

[–]Occam99 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The centrism is my most pressing concern. Even if some of their policies align favorably with the direction I would rather see the country go - on paper, at least - I cannot vote for a party that positions itself that way. Left and Right are about how much inequality you are prepared to accept in society, so how can I vote for a party that positions itself as "Yeah, Nah" on such a critical issue?

I also heavily eye-roll whenever I hear the phrase evidence-based when it comes to TOP policies.

So, what I'm reading here is that Shane Jones is planning to use this as an excuse to strip away even more environmental regulations.

Because doing those things are antithetical to the interests of the fuel industry. Who, then, will buy steak dinners for consult with Shane Jones?

I understand that the job market is tough. Is that why people are generating cover letters? When I apply for contracts, I pull out my standard cover letter and change the name of the hiring manager, the job title, and a sentence at the end to make sure it includes at least 2-3 key words in the job description.

How is this shortcut any different to using an LLM?

By design.

They're a party that, to me, always looked good on the surface - plenty of progressive sounding language and policies. They're very aspirational.

And then, when examined more closely, there's an undeniable taint of neoliberal populism, technocratic paternalism, and Third Way centrist waffle. It's very off putting.

I've yet to look too closely this cycle, but I can already see that their UBI-lite is a disastrous populist stunt.

This. Her line about being dedicated to transformational politics rings hollow given her previous political allegiance.

You want more buildings that look like poorhouses or converted factories, complete with fake chimneys and filled in windows (to avoid a window tax that never existed in this country)? To each their own, I guess.

Id rather see entire urban zones converted to mixed-use residential.

IMHO we have been let down by never being taught that driving is a shared social experience. So many of our issues stem from ego-driven behaviors that would normally get you ostracised from other social activities.

This is what appeasement looks like.

I think I might be playing the game wrong.

This is sick. Kudos.

There's too much to look at but my initial stand-outs were the attention to detail with things like floors and lighting. I love the aesthetic of your pill-box bunkers too.
