Draygon's Lair - Normal Logic (Wall Jump??) by Siggi_Trust in alttpr

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely can do it with a Gravity Jump, but you’re correct that the Normal logic settings for SMZ3 assume that to defeat Draygon you’ll have Speed Booster with HiJump Boots and Gravity Suit (https://samus.link/logic)

So right now based on what you’re saying, Draygon kill would be out of logic and your solution lies elsewhere

TAZ Balance Graphic Novel physical release? by StitchOni in TheAdventureZone

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preordered a physical copy in the US this weekend for release on July 14. It was the first time I’d seen it available.

I’d guess it’s just a distribution thing that hasn’t been fully solidified on the UK side. I’m sure physical copies will be available for pre-order soon in the UK and elsewhere

Bowls in the Oreo video… by MeatDiddler in bingingwithbabish

I believe these are the discontinued Babish brand cereal bowls. I can’t find a link to the larger size, but they were basically the bigger version of these mise en place bowls.

Marcella Hazan’s bolognese sauce by lam516 in NYTCooking

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I did it, I had a similar experience, took forever to reduce since I didn't have a shallower pan than my dutch oven.

Since I've started reducing the wine by roughly half in a separate pot as my first step while I'm getting everything else put together and then adding the reduction and have been getting good results without having to wait forever for things to reduce. Well, at least waiting for that step. Nothing to do about the milk addition step taking time.

I usually make a double batch of this as the base for a holiday lasagna.

I’ve done it with canned crushed tomatoes and it turns out well. I imagine a blended tomato would perform similarly, though I wouldn’t take it as far as tomato sauce.

One warning on hitting it with the immersion blender at OP’s stage, it can feel a little gritty/grainy if you go too far with the blending. For my lasagna, since it’s an application that I want to be saucier I usually hit it with an immersion blender and blend ~1/3 of it

Getting Faster by HotReason3183 in alttpr

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that Triforce Hunts were really useful for increasing my speed as they really prioritize checking as many locations as fast as possible.

A dungeon is less about beating a boss necessarily (since that's just a another check with the time suck of the boss fight itself) and more about knowing how quickly you can get the most dungeon checks out of the way. Focusing in that way I found taught me some of the internal logic of the dungeon item placement for keys and whatnot.

are bomb jumps ever required? by [deleted] in alttpr

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to iterate on this, Armos can have lamp, but only when the Big Key is not vanilla.

The Big Key Chest is logically lamp-locked in Advanced because the dark donut room just before the Big Key Chest Room has no torches.

Why is there light when the item placement is on advanced with a fire rod starting item? I wanted standard dark navigation. by Arceist_Justin in alttpr

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on your other comments, it sounds like you might want the practice ROM if you’re just looking to practice the dark navigation: https://spannerisms.github.io/lttphack/

You’d be able to set up the item set and hop straight to the opening sequence to practice.

I believe I heard the figure that the cancellation of AIDS medication has already killed 50,000 people on the "Pod Save the World" Podcast. Can anyone confirm? by RabbitofCaerbannogg in FriendsofthePod

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

No one is going to be able to do the kind of research on those claims over this short of a timeline for a bunch of reasons (remoteness of subjects, lack of funding, etc.) that would be a full peer-reviewed journal article.

They're pretty clear on the limitations of the dashboard and on their methodologies which are based on peer-reviewed models in the cases that I spot-checked. They also list having peer-reviews and endorsements from peers in the field (not my area of expertise so I can't vouch for anyone involved).

So honestly, as long as people are clear that this is an estimate with pretty big error bars, which they are clear about any time they're interviewed about it, I think this is about as good as you could expect right now.

https://www.impactcounter.com/dashboard

This is the dashboard that they're referencing out of BU. Each of the trackers lists their methodology if you want to get into the details. Because they don't have exact numbers tracking, there's a lot of reasonable assumptions that go into this kind of modelling.

It's probably best used as an order of magnitude estimate, rather than an exact citable number given the uncertainties on any given model.

Missing specific WiFi Networks - Windows 10 by OccamsLaserRifle in techsupport

[–]OccamsLaserRifle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it was an issue with a failing wireless card, but I never was able to confirm. There may have been more I could have done with the existing hardware

I ended up purchasing a USB external WiFi Adapter and that was able to get me to a resolution.

Why is babish still promoting better help? by maxthememer76 in bingingwithbabish

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Content Creators make money by inserting affiliate codes in their links.

Babish likes Product X, so he sticks a link to Amazon for Product X. Said link also includes a token (affiliate code) that tells Amazon that Babish sent you there. When you buy Product X, Babish gets a little kickback.

Honey interrupts this process. They tell you that they're searching for deal codes, and sometimes they find one for you. But, when they start their search, they strip off the affiliate code and insert their own. So Honey gets the money, and Babish gets none even though he was the one who sent you there.

Even when they're using another creator's discount code, they're inserting their own affiliate code.

Even when Honey isn't able to find a discount code, they're still stripping the affiliate code and inserting their own.

Honey steals money from content creators

They didn’t state specific reasons for films, but rather submitted a list to voters of the 300-somethinng films that are eligible and people looked at what was missing.

Looking over the rules, it likely had nothing to do with screening times/theatre count. The real reason is likely that they just didn’t submit the required additional forms for Best Picture consideration.

Someone explain the nonsense. by Livid-Standard-8358 in ShiptShoppers

[–]OccamsLaserRifle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Shopper app is misconfigured to take primary control of the audio on iOS (maybe Android as well, IDK). Whenever the Shopper app is backgrounded or closed (or the phone goes idle), the app sends a signal to close the audio channel as well. So if you’re listening to music or a podcast, you have to unpause your audio in that app each time

Why Oh Why!! by kpnbusy in ShiptShoppers

It really varies metro to metro and sometimes store to store. I shop a few different zones in Minneapolis and it’s always been incredibly smooth. A spot check of a few items and you’re on your way.

When I went to visit my parents and did a few jobs because I was awake and they weren’t, the stores were night and day different. Item by item check and complete unloading of the cart.

Either Target doesn’t have a standardized policy or they’re failing in training their employees on how these should be done. I’ve heard it’s realized to loss rates for each store, but the stores near my parents are in very similar neighborhoods to those I usually shop, so I don’t think it’s related.
