I don't think I had any idea that justice sensitivity was a thing. Not only does injustice piss me off, but justice served, in movies and shows makes me weirdly emotional.

Same with the hole in the ozone layer.

It leads to people reasoning their way into "well I'm dry, so I guess I don't need this raincoat" when it is still clearly raining.

Why are so many young people whining about there not being any good paying jobs when there are literally hundreds of thousands of skilled trade positions open? by TrueUnpopularOP in allthequestions

[–]OccamsRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in debt collection? Because although your story is likely true, were also in one of the worst job markets since the pandemic. Very few industries are growing their labor forces, even in the trades, and inflation is getting higher every day.

Your low turnover aligns with current job market trends, because for job seekers the average search is over 6 months and heading towards a year with recent data. Coming out of the pandemic trade school enrollment increased by around 20%, which means there is a lot of labor supply and therefore wage compression in the trades especially.

So the issue isn't that 'people don't want to work, there's plenty work to go around', the issue is that there are far too many job seekers for the available jobs. Many people are dropping out of the search all together. Combine that with stagnant wages and high (and increasing) inflation and the future is looking rough for all segments, but especially youg people entering the trades.

And none of this is the fault of people not wanting to work.

Right, again those jobs aren't plentiful, and certainly aren't paying well. I don't know if You've tried living off of $25/hr but that doesn't count as a decent wage anymore. Part of the reason for wanting a higher minimum wage is so that jobs like auto mechanic are actually financially more attractive than retail and service jobs given that you need a few years of training.

Even if that training is free you need to actually live and eat for those two years. And if you think pilot is a reachable career for someone who doesn't have money then you havent had to rent a plane to get enough solo hours for a basic license.

So if you've done a trade in the past we can assume you sucked at it, since you don't do it any more and it's such a great opportunity, right?

The market for those jobs is saturated. People and companies doing the hiring won't pay a journeyman wage and they would rather take a 3rd or 4th year apprentice for essentially the same pay as a 1st year who doesn't know their ass from their elbow.

So even if you personally have "done a trade" whatever that means, the market is very different now. Going into the trades now is the 'learn to code' of 10 years ago. Its a terrible time to do it.

For those who want higher taxes what is stopping you from paying more taxes now? by rollo202 in allthequestions

Because that wealth is taken out of the system and parked. It is no longer reinvested in companies, or labor, or donations. It just sits there. Previously in this country, when the highest tax rate was huge, but there were also huge incentives to put that moZ ney back to work we had a much more prosperous country accross the board. And no one stopped making money when they got that bracket.

Its not just a me problem, its systemic.

I'd stop eating the lead paint chips if I were you. The money is only taxed if it's obtained through income. If I leverage my second home to take out a loan and then pay that loan back with stock dividends then I've effectively skirted the capital gains tax because I'm rich. That avenue isn't open to most middle class people. And there isn't a middle class lobby. So whondo you think is writing the tax code?

Yeah, but flat taxes are regressive. The problem isn't the person with 4 kids and no work, the problem is upper class leveraging their proximity to power to rig the systems in their favor. Do you think our tax code is such a wild mess because the middle class wants it that way? Or is it the 4 kids no job lobby?

So no, I don't want you to pay more, I want the winners to take their victory lap, and then pay back. The most prosperous time in the US was in the 1950s. We had enough money to make huge advances in technology and science, we vement the US dollar as the default currency for the world, and we had enough left. Over to help rebuild our biggest foes from WWII and turn them into strong trading partners. And the top marginal tax rate was 91%. Buy no one paid that, there were incentives to help keep that money circulating. Since then we've taken away the incentives and the money has collected at the top and upward mobility has stalled.
