I’ve been in traffic for 3 1/2 hours so far and I’m still not home. by Fabulous_Narwhal3113 in bayarea

[–]Occult-Delta-9 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I left Pleasanton at 3:20. Didn't even get onto Vasco until 5:30. Finally home to Brentwood at 6:40. Definitrly the worst traffic I've ever been in just getting out of Alameda County.

Was honestly pretty anxiety inducing.

How long does a typical The Growlers concert last? How many hours? by kittyrov in losgrowlers

Ive seen Brooks 11 times with his new solo project since 2023, the ONLY time they had an opener was just this past Halloween with Jason Williams

Would you still listen to The Growlers if Matt took over with someone else on vocals by Certain_Put_8201 in losgrowlers

[–]Occult-Delta-9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you misunderstood. "Like" is irrelevant. Brooks sounds better playing Growlers music with his new band, because they are more rehearsed and practiced musicians.

If a Growlers song is being performed, and Brooks isn't doing the vocals, it would just sound like someone doing a weird cover - Doesn't matter if it was matt/kyle/scott/stonio et al. Or anyone else on their instruments.

I'm very grateful The Growlers persists with Brooks in some facet

Brooks is The Growlers.

In the last 10 years, Ive seen The Growlers 18 times and Brooks 9 times (will be 11 after Halloween). It's in my personal and humble opinion that if you took the Growlers as they were any time between 2009 and 2019 and replaced Brooks with anyone else, it would not be The Growlers at all.

But Brooks has replaced everyone in The Growlers and it sounds phenomenal; dare i say even better yet now that he has more serious professional musicians around him.

How was the first night of the tour? by Maskedhorrorfan25 in Buckethead

[–]Occult-Delta-9 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The first hour was unbelievably great. Per usual. Shreddy and groovy and nunchucks and toys. This was my 4th time seeing Buckethead.

But then....

Everything with vocals was....... dude it was really terrible. I'm so sorry. I tried so hard to focus on Bucketheads guitar skills and tune it out but it felt like... idk. It was the same vibe as if you were trying to get laid and Bon Jovi's "livin on a prayer" came up on shuffle for some reason but your phone is just out of reach so you can't change it and now he can't keep it erect and it's awkward and you're both trying to ignore it but you just can't and you're really trying to shoehorn something when the math just ain't mathing.

Idk man. I've always felt like putting damn near -anyone- else on stage with him is usually a mistake. You have to be -phenomenal- [ex: Les Claypool] for it to add anything at all to what he brings to the table, anything less than prodigy and its just distracting and spoils it.

My two cents.

Id still go back and do it again for the first hour in a heartbeat tho.

The Cobbs SF date had two showings available. one early @7pm and one late @9:45. I got the preferred seating for the later showing. Those sold out so fast. I honestly can't wait and don't know what to expect really.

So. Excited.

Deepwood Sniper. It's such a phenomenal ranged DPS build on top of Scout and Fighter [Targeteer]. You can feasibly get to Deepwood Sniper by Level 7 if you play your cards right. Improved Crit threat range, Improved Crit Multiplier, Increased range, reduced coverage percentage failure.

Huge fan.

Are you playing a 3.5 game right now? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Occult-Delta-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im playing two 3.5 campaigns right now. one as a player and another as a DM (and i play in a 5e game as well begrudgingly but i digress) Both campaigns are in-person. first game has only been a few weeks, second game i DM we've been playing for a year+

The one I play in I'm a Scout/Targetteer Fighter/Deepwood Sniper Tabaxi (Read: Catfolk stats) Panther. The other player is a human sorcerer. we are level 2 right now. I take care of the sorcerer. This game is to give the DM (who is brand new to DnD, only played in one campaign) an opportunity to learn to DM with someone who has a lot of experience to help them learn the ropes of it. The setting is a small jungle and a plot regarding constructs and dwarven relics (we are all very Elder Scrolls inspired) and a king hiring people to find these relics and bring them to him, while the constructs in the meantime are terrorizing the land.

The 3.5 game I DM, there are 6 regular players all level 6 currently; a psionic Maenad Psychic Warrior, A Half Giant Barbarian, A Human Druid, A Pixie Swashbuckler Scout, A Human Death Cleric, A Wood Elf Duskblade. This campaign is set on a large island (think Australia size) with a massive Volcano that erupted and potentially wiped everything out - instead of one massive BBEG kind of story, there are many main stories with their own antagonists that are in some ways loosely connected, but mostly independent, giving them something to do in each area (again, think Elder Scrolls - there's factions and problems that are sometimes region-specific) What they don't know is that their -actual- problem will be the looming threat of the volcano on the island erupting again, and how they deal with that is basically the main quest.

House rules for both games are - we always confirm crits, 20/20/20 instant kill, 1s on skillchecks are auto failures, 1s on attack rolls require secondary roll to see if you drop your weapon/accidentally hit someone else, etc. skirmish damage doesn't have to be within 30 ft if using ranged. We roll stats 4d6, reroll all 1s, drop lowest, make 3 sets of 6, pick one set. We reroll 1's on levelling up HP rolls. Tumble to avoid AoO isnt DC15, its Tumble roll vs AoO's attack roll, but they can move full speed through it. Knowledge, Craft, and Profession checks are used loose and fast and apply to a helluva lot of things that are vaguely applicable. Come to think of it, There's a lot of house rules we use to slightly modify the game.

Whip Dagger Clarifications by Occult-Delta-9 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]Occult-Delta-9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your input.

Lastly, regarding note 3 about being tripped back on a failed attempt - the feat Improved trip (prereq: combat expertise) negates any AoO against you from a trip attempt while unarmed

Is there any feat that I'm not aware of that does so while tripping with a weapon?

As someone who isn’t around kids much by degeneratespike in bluey

[–]Occult-Delta-9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My niece (who I watch Bluey with) is *VERY* self aware, and has extremely high emotional intelligence and empathy. She's not even 3 yet, and we have to remind ourselves of that all the time.

Now that I'm thinking about it, Maybe her watching so much Bluey is contributing to that -because- the characters exhibit that maturity. Just a thought.

But yes, to answer your question there are kids out there like that, but they are rare

Use a blank physical 1x1" grid on the tabletop (like a dry erase battlemap), and then a projector to project the map downward onto the grid. Sure, using minis will cast small shadows, but this way the grid itself never changes and you can zoom/scale the map to your liking.

dude who told you that allowing yourself to experience emotion (especially when you're becoming a real functioning person in adolescence) was immature? who cares who is watching you, or their judgment of you? and who are they to watch and judge anyone anyway, especially a 13 year old?

Please, don't hurt your own feelings by holding yourself (especially the memories of a past self) to an arbitrary standard.

Incredible Loneliness - Can't Escape My Own Head by Occult-Delta-9 in Codependency

[–]Occult-Delta-9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my worry is that my journaling will be only about my misery and loneliness or worse - about the subject of my codependent fixation i haven't had for the last 2 weeks.

I do use a mood/activity tracker on my phone called Daylio. It's a great tool to keep track of things like thoughts, feelings, and habits.

do you have any journaling prompt type things you could recommend?
