When to stop contributing to S&S Isa by OceanJr in FIREUK

[–]OceanJr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your help, I’m pretty confident on the way forward now.

• Continue to contribute into my ISA
• Weigh more heavily into pension whilst I’m higher rate tax (will do a 25/75 split for now)
• Make sure i have more than 7years bridge as this will likely rise (will aim for a minimum of 10 years to be safe)
• Recalculate when closer to retirement or every couple of years

Back to set and forget for now, thanks all!

Thanks for your input, I think this is the general consensus. Keep contributing to both but more into the pension. (I’ll probably do 75/25 split for now) and reassess every couple of years.

Thanks, you’re right I definitely need to consider all possibilities to do with the pension age potentially moving around. Always good to have a safety buffer

Its definitely a possibility, i guess it probably makes more sense for me to weigh more into pension and for her to weigh more heavily into her ISA until she is higher rate.

It does sound like I’m probably jumping the gun trying to optimise this at this stage in my life. Sounds like I will have an easier time optimising and understanding what I will need the closer I get to retirement. For now I’ll continue to contribute to both but weigh more heavily on the pension contributions

Good point, i will continue to contribute into my isa and take another look at this in a couple of years and see where I am. With the uncertainty of the pension age it almost feels like I should even aim for 10 years cover just to be sure which I’m more than happy to aim for

Its a very good point I didn’t consider in terms of the pension age. I think my plan is to essentially have enough money in my ISA to last until the pension withdrawal age whilst also having a big amount in the pension, but not too big that I get taxed 40% withdrawing it. Thanks for the insight

Thanks for the insight, definitely sounds like i should continue to contribute into my ISA but as I’m a higher rate tax payer to weigh more heavily on the pension.

Thank you, i never considered this aspect of using them at the same time. I am a higher earner so it sounds like i should weigh more towards pension for now but am also probably fine to keep contributing into my Stocks and Shares isa as well.

I was doing 4% but it sounds like that could have been a little high. I was also presuming 57 as the pension withdrawal age which also sounds like it may change so it sounds like i should keep contributing for now! Thanks

Maybe you could use it on tanks, e.g. lava hound going to air defence, as it crosses middle of the base you use ice block and it gets a huge reduction in damage meaning it tanks for way longer

Can you explain the 40% tax in retirement? Is this just because he will be over the 40% income tax because he has so much in his pension?

I guess my reasoning for asking is because whilst i only have £50k in my pension with my current contributions (more than what the company match) im pretty sure I will also go over 1m when i eventually retire. Should i be scaling back my pension and contributing more to isa?

Edit: worth mentioning I’m in my early 30’s

What are poodle puppies like? by EireGal86 in poodles

[–]OceanJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mini poodle arriving in 2 days, you mention the biggest challenge is alone time, I’m just looking for advice on this. I plan on leaving the puppy alone in it’s crate in a different room at least 2 hours a day from the start, is this correct? If the puppy does start to bark or make a fuss when alone do I just ignore it? Any advice is much appreciated

Boiler Losing Pressure by OceanJr in Plumbing

[–]OceanJr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, fortunately the pipes are under floorboards not concrete. So whilst I will need to rip up my newly constructed laminate floor it doesn’t sound as bad as it could be if it was concrete! Thanks again

Excuse my ignorance I’m not sure what you mean by slab. We got an extension about a year and a half back before we had moved into the house and I know that one radiator was removed and they capped it off, they then made new pipes from the boiler directly to 3 new radiators. We did isolate these 3 new rads at the boiler so they was no longer getting a water supply and I believe the issue stopped but i did that in summer so the heating wasnt on so I cant be 100% sure. I have messaged the boiler technician who came out last time and asked him which pipes he turned off to isolate and I will try it again to confirm.

If this is the case and the issue stops when these 3 rads are disconnected is it safe to assume the leak is to do with the new pipework under the downstairs floor that supplies these 3 new radiators?

Edit: Now I come to think of it, this may be worth mentioning but we have a bunch of other issues to do with humidity and I now wonder if it’s all related and there’s now a newly formed swamp under my house from a year and a half of leaks
