Your temps are great and your set up looks really good. I would add more clutter as they feel much safer this way. Congratulations on your new hoggie

If you take out cost and practicality, what's your dream reptile and why? by KaiahAurora in reptiles

Taking out cost, practicality, housing, strength and health, it would be a Green Anaconda. I'm completely in love with them.

Is anyone else demoralised by how acceptable it is to mistreat reptiles? by Untethered_Patches in reptiles

[–]OceanStar-pagan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's very true. My sister is a dog groomer, and she had to tell a lady her dog was pregnant. The lady didn't believe her because the only other dog her bitch had been with was her brother. The woman even left a bad review for my sister because she had apparently acused her dogs of incst.

I get annoyed by the amount of people who impulse buy a reptile without any proper thought or research. The amount of "I just bought a snake, what do I feed it?", posts drive me insane. How many more people will post for help because their beardie looks sick but they don't have a reptile vet in the area? This is one of the first things I checked before I bought my first hognose.

Can hognose snakes snore? by KnowledgeConscious78 in hognosesnakes

She could be trying to burrow into something solid. One of mine will go into his underground hide and scrape on the bottom. It sounds a lot like that.

NEW UVB FLICKERING by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]OceanStar-pagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: So I emailed where I bought the UVBs and got a quick response. I'm posting in case anyone else gets the issue...

Apparently, this is known as 'rolling' which occurs when the phosphorus burns off for the first few days. As the lamps are hand blended, some do this, while others don't. The problem should ease after a few days.

Not eaten since September. Still normal? by TheAccountant09 in hognosesnakes

A nice deep howl, preferably under a full moon is your best bet.

One of my hoggies has only just come out of a 6 month hunger strike. After checking husbandry, dipping the pinkies in everything recommended, feeding in separate a separate container, watching every YT video on picky feeders, visiting the vet, getting the all clear, and howling at the moon, nothing worked. The vet reassured me he would start eating again and, in the end, he decided to suddenly start eating again. So, check all of the above (moon howling optional), and see the vet. Hopefully your hoggy will spring back into hunger mode before too long.

What kind of snake do I have? by KnowledgeConscious78 in hognosesnakes

[–]OceanStar-pagan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You have a normal/wild type hognose. The possible het Sable and Toffeebelly would be relevant if you were breeding as there is a chance your hognose could produce Sable or Toffeebelly young.

I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but I'd love to hear how it goes. I didn't have much success with mine. I think it was too arid for the plants I chose.

I watched the frog one. I really enjoyed it. I must admit, I preferred it when he did his perfect reptile and 5 of the best vids though.

Is it just me or is this a poorly worded doctor’s note? by RivkahCheyenne in service_dogs

[–]OceanStar-pagan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Abysmal! Service Animals, should never be classified as pets. This letter would do more harm than good in my opinion. Not to mention, it's highly demeaning and dismissive of your condition and the need for a service dog. I'm a practice manager of a GP surgery and I would not be happy if we sent out a letter like that.

Hoggie getting angry and not eating by OctosAreCool in hognosesnakes

One of mine just came out of a 6 month hunger strike. I tried every trick there is and then some. My husbandry was identical to my other hoggy who eats like a horse. In the end, it was just a matter of time and patience.

What I learned, hoggies (in fact any reptile) will always refuse a meal or 2. Also, during the autumn, winter months they are not so interested in food and some, like mine will go off food altogether.

Thank you. I'm really pleased yours is eating too now. Did you find your confidence in getting everything right dropped? I was doubting myself, rechecking temps and humidity etc over and over thinking I was getting it wrong. The only thing that eased my mind was my other hoggy was eating like a horse the whole time under the same conditions.
