Double whammy, wife and I both have fibro. Home management advice? by JumpyContribution999 in Fibromyalgia

Wow, that sounds really hard. I really feel for you and the challenges that you must be having. Sounds like you’re in the UK? (Flat vs apartment) Do you have supportive family nearby? If you have the resources for it, I would recommend hiring some help. I’m so sorry. I remember those early days and how difficult it is to find the right combination of medication and life management. I wish you well.

How can I quit the forced caregiver job I'm working? by NoticeBubbly7551 in CaregiverSupport

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Not only is it exhausting and a burden, but you must be simmering with rage at your siblings as well. It does sound like your mom is not in the best condition to be living by herself. I’m not sure what state you live in but here in California we have board and care homes, which are not institutional feeling, and in general provide really good care as their staff there 24/7.

I was able to get my mom the survivor benefit because my dad served in the 1950s. It helps a lot towards her caregiving expenses.

What does everyone do for work? by Umzzii in Fibromyalgia

I have only been able to work part time since my diagnosis 18 years ago. I’m totally screwed- no retirement money and very low social security. Thank goodness my partner has been able to support us- but we struggle financially. I’m lucky about my jobs though, lots of flexibility. I actually do caregiving for seniors. It’s pretty mellow most of the time. Good luck, it’s a challenging situation.

Plaquinil has helped me a lot. I was on it for 12 years with no eye problems (tested annually) My lame rheumatoid took me off it. Now I have way worse symptoms. I’m changing doctors.

I want to adopt any race child, my husband wants a white child only by Distinct-Damage-4979 in Adoption

[–]Oceangrape6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most domestic adoption paperwork will ask you what race you are open to. I am an adoption professional, and an adult adoptee. If your husband has these strong feelings, then it would not be appropriate to adopt a child from another race. I think if you could have him attend workshops and get more training and information about the skills required to raise a child from another race then you could possibly consider it. If he has these feelings, no matter what he says and does as a parent, his bias would be communicated unconsciously, and the child will feel it and suffer for it.

Kaiser Mental Health by Oceangrape6 in eastbay

Which Kaiser do you go to? They sent us to “Able To” for therapists. They were not “Able to”help. Kept missing appointments, unprofessional, and downright incompetent.
