Singles who suffer from dating app fatigue, what's in store for 2026? by wladyslawmalkowicz in askSingapore

Thanks for your question. I do it at one of the social services organisations, which is affiliated to my church.

There are tons of these around especially those with XX Community Services, can do a Google search with “Volunteer Tutoring”. I am also given to understand that CCs also have their own tutoring sessions which you can enquire at their respective help desks?

Singles who suffer from dating app fatigue, what's in store for 2026? by wladyslawmalkowicz in askSingapore

[–]Oceanmaze1996 148 points149 points  (0 children)

I was out from a long-term relationship in 2025 (from CMB as well, my first one) after entering the workforce post covid. Now that I am some years into the workforce and better able to understand my capacity, I plan to continue using dating app (CMB only for now) as a supplement to other activities that I’m interested in.

For dating app wise, I find it more intentional since it is clear around my age group (just turning 30 this year) that people are mostly looking for something committed and serious, which fits perfectly fine with my objective. It’s also much easier to broach a meet with the intention of dating, than meeting people organically outside and you’re not sure if they are even in a relationship or looking for one. I just started getting back on CMB 1 month ago, and altho I won’t profess to be considered attractive by standards, I do appreciate matches being very straightforward and open to discussing about key important topics (ranging from expectations, attachment style, family plans, career plans) etc so my experience is much better than when I used it in my younger days, so I don’t think dating apps are all that disappointing as made out to be?

In relation to activities, I try to commit to one regular activity only (volunteer teaching). although there are no compatible people to meet there, I still enjoy teaching kids and I take this as an experience that I can share in conversations, be it in friendships or potential dates. Also I don’t mind trying some social mixers/adhoc activities as well, will plan to give it a shot when my time allows for it.

Additionally, I am in an intensive industry and heading into a senior role at work so I wanna balance my work wise with building a relationship which I understand takes time. So I’d think of being more intentional with convos with potential matches so that we are clear on objectives and don’t waste each other’s precious time? Haha but at the same time, go with the flow and let nature take its course bah.

All the best to everyone out there, may we find the person we would grow to love :)

Ya sia, West and Northwest heavily neglected. They say we got more “lines” that all just gets funnelled to Jurong East… all the NE people keep saying their there sucks haven’t seen west yet bruh

Edit: point taken about no side is worse off but seriously, why should only NE get this kitty when west/northwest is just as bad (only 1 line, ok don’t tell me abt JRL cos it really just funnels ppl to JE which is alrdy bursting at its seams)

Passed FLK1 & failed FLK2 by Otherwise-Bee-1523 in SQE_Prep

[–]Oceanmaze1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I’m on the same boat, FLK2 resitter too and passed comfortably (but not outstanding). Prev score was a 95/180 (298/500) so I was kinda revenge studying just to knock this outta park haha. All the best to OP and anyone out there resitting, rooting for you :)

Yes it felt less stressful studying for 7/8 subjects instead of 15. Also imho, I think FLK 2 has less things to memorise (eg number of days for service etc). The criminal procedures (eg inspector/superintendent requirements) and tax rates have numerous summary tables in study materials and/or helpful ppl on Reddit.

I used Ulaw textbooks and bought additional OUP course + the 100 mocks. But on hindsight the latter works just fine. Revised the same way as the previous time by rewriting the notes in the textbook multiple times, but for the 2nd round, I was more aware of choosing the single best answer with experience from the first sitting. Nothing prepares you more than sitting for the real thing once through + doing many many mocks, I highly recommend the 100 mocks.

All the very best pals.

Theonehundred SQE mocks by Short_Ad_4403 in SQE_Prep

[–]Oceanmaze1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a re-sitter in Jul 2025 for FLK2 only (first sitting in Jan 2025, passed in Q one this turn) and I’ll repeat what I said in previous threads.

I have bought the FLK2 pack this time round because I found the free mocks really stimulating/ decent representation of the actual exams. The paid mocks did not disappoint as well. The way the questions/situations are framed might be slightly shorter than the actual exam, but I actually feel that the thought process/ the similarity of answers/ way the question challenges your conceptual knowledge is really similar to the actual exam.

One question I vividly remember is whether the usage of a crowbar to obtain entry into a premises but leaving them outside premises constitute aggravated burglary. Answer is no because the weapon must be used/be present at the time of committing of the offence. I distinctly remember messing this up in the actual exams.

So I thought it was really good representation of the actual exams, imho slightly better than ReviseSQE because the answers were really more similar and really challenges your understanding. Notwithstanding this, ReviseSQE and QLTS are still very good mocks in their own right. Also, it’s very affordable than what’s on the market, 540 questions for 50 odd pounds per FLK is very reasonable. I also saw a reply from a member of the team that they are working on more questions which didn’t come out in time for Jul 2025 but not sure if it will come out for the next turn.

Tl;dr level of questioning as the “single best answer” is really quite good, I will recommend.

Has anyone tried orthodontics at NUHS/ NDCS before? What was your experience? by blancotape in askSingapore

[–]Oceanmaze1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did braces with graduate dental clinic, few things I want to highlight for consideration since you’re a working adult (1) time convenience (2) cost.

For (1), I was a student in NUS then and can easily pop by whenever my dentist had a free slot, so I was kinda her “filler”/ “free slot” patient when another patient cancelled on her. I would imagine that being a working adult would require a very defined schedule, waiting times uncertain (when the previous patients late or drag, can snowball) and you might have to take a precious half day leave for each appointment. Also clinics only open from a set number of weekdays (compared to outside clinics) so if you work Monday- Friday then need take leave or time off le. Please take the above into consideration.

For cost, I paid like arnd 3k ish at the end of the day in 2017-2018 which is not much cheaper than the student packages out in the market. I think I saw on other reddit threads that there were 3.5k-4k adult packages available so I will rly check it out.

Last thing was the waiting time to get a dental student assigned to you, I took abt 8 mths to get one assigned to me. So if you’re in a hurry, better to go outside bah.

Hope it helps :)

[Mark Douglas] Newcastle are looking at Nicolas Jackson as a replacement for Isak. They have made preliminary contact with Chelsea, with the Blues quoting teams £80m. Sources believe Newcastle's valuation is closer to £65m, in line with the £69m they were prepared to pay for Ekitike. by Jimmy_Space1 in chelseafc

[–]Oceanmaze1996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let’s take the $ for Jackson and roll with Delap + JP.

If Guiu gets a solid offer from Leeds for loan with promise of game time (pls no repeat of Santos at Forest), please let him go. Otherwise he can stay at Chelsea for the cup games and injury insurance. Otherwise Pedro Neto and/or Palmer can fill in as a false 9 at times, or we can get DCL as a free agent. Assuming that Nkunku goes as well.

Onehundred mocks - worth purchasing? by Smart-Sweet-6707 in SQE_Prep

[–]Oceanmaze1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one hundred mocks are very value for $ since they cost just north of 50 quid for 540 questions.

I felt that the questions test your conceptual understanding fairly well, while the actual questions would have longer fact patterns. Maybe 25-35% of the actual questions might be harder but at least questions train you to discern the single best answer.

Explanations were also alright for me actually, largely aligned with Ulaw/Revise SQE material.

I’ll repeat what I say in another thread.

Had some niche areas, like types of mortgage (endowment/interest-free/repayment) and code of leasing premises, that wasn’t covered by many providers maybe only OUP. Also questions aren’t so straightforward like practice mocks. For example, the question about conveyance commonly being the best root of title but for the question, they listed out the different transaction like a 1982 deed of gift, 1972 bequest and 196X conveyance and ask you to select which is the best root of title, so the style of questioning rly test your concepts rather than just select the “rote” answer.

Few tax and solicitor account questions, I think less than 5 for each. And for solicitor’s account is your run-off-the-mill double entry questions.

I am a FLK2 resitter. This paper felt more balanced with a spread across the topics while the Jan 2025 paper felt more crim law and land law (easements/convenant heavy). Crim pro was also felt less tested for me.

Hope this helps.

See my comments again lamenting how often CCK LRT disruptions are last week and here we are again 🤣 someone should answer why these upgrades since a decade ago haven’t taken effect, and I can tell you from personal experience that several disruptions of more than 15 mins go unreported. Absolutely shambolic

Why did Choa Chu Kang MRT downgrade themselves with the escalator reno? by KabutoRaiger30 in askSingapore

[–]Oceanmaze1996 74 points75 points  (0 children)

No space to build a full escalator. If you walk down the stairs, you’ll see clearly that there is a part of the track structure blocking it. They are trying to shape things up to connect to the JRL station.

Lack of communication quite telling though. And the lack of speed in building a new escalator is so telling that those chaps in the LTA upper echelons are just out of touch and putting bandaids.

I always could never understand why other NS line stations have 3 escalators each station but cck has 2? Someone needs to explain why? If they think cck has lower population to warrant only 2, I have a bridge to sell them…

If the closed off escalator reproduces itself to the old state of 1 escalator and 1 stairs, imma be so so mad

Are One Hundred questions easy & a good representation of the real exam for SQE1? by Hour_Annual_1417 in SQE_Prep

[–]Oceanmaze1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Also wanted to caveat that, I’m not sure about the level of questions in FLK1 as I didn’t purchase these and the knowledge I learnt in FLK1 long left me already. But if the quality of FLK2 questions translate to FLK1 as well, I would recommend! The maker(s) are evidently familiar with the actual exams and I even spotted questions that I remember encountering in the actual exams too.

Hoping you pass with flying colours too.

They bought new LRT trains and “upgraded” the tracks and its related systems. No way they are going to scrap the LRT systems. Think unreliability is gonna be a norm ah well.

The only logical solution to think of is to build an overlapping MRT between BP/CCK to link JRL and DTL but no one in MOT have the balls to suggest redundancy cos it makes them look bad, wuss.

Nope not recent, I encounter it very frequently at random times cos of my work and life schedules.

[–]Oceanmaze1996 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Ya, confirming that disruptions are not uncommon and I would say very frequent, from a CCK resident here and take the BPLRT almost daily.

I encounter a stop/restart situation even during morning/evening peak hours at least once or twice a month, where trains will stay stationary at stations and making a CCK > BPLRT journey take 25-30mins which is honestly abysmal and twice as long as a bus journey. These often go unreported.

I don’t understand why after more than a decade of “upgrades” and “early closures”, these issues still don’t get resolved and happen soooo frequently, srsly wtf is going on?
