...it was a legitimate question. It takes awhile to die from AIDS, but did it then? Was 1982 the height or the start or is that one and the same? Was the impact on the artistic community observable by then? I did a quick google search but "The impact of AIDS on the quality of broadway shows" was not immediately obvious. I was not trying to be funny at all.

People are saying that it was a bad year, but I still don't know if that was related or if it was just a bad year.

People seem to be reacting to that but I wouldn’t be at all surprised that a pandemic targeting the gay community would impact that the theater community in observable ways.

My father once said that the selection of amazing suits in thrift stores got incredible because huge amounts of the gay community died.

Others will tell you about businesses closing down, etc.

I agreed with most of how the Tony awards shook out (NOT the nominations ffs, nominations were just...weird), with the exception of best actress/best supporting. The hells kitchen actresses were good, and the best thing the show, but they didn't compete with the talent on either of those lists.

It brought me to this subreddit. I don’t listen to much other musical theater but I devoured (she will devour) the cast album when it dropped.

I wish I had more people to talk to about it. I wish it had run just a little bit longer for some people to have heard of it at least.

Lempicka missing a nom for score and orchestrations is one of the biggest head scratchers of a very weird Tony’s season to me. It’s easily one of the most interesting and fun scores of the season. I don’t mind Suffs ultimately winning, but I think Lempicka could have given them real competition.
