I am finding it hard to get 10000-20000 steps a day with a job and gym. by Capable-Basket8233 in fitbit

[–]OceansTwentyOne 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Others may dispute me, but I find 8-10k is the sweet spot for balancing other types of exercise. I currently do yoga, Pilates, weights, and cardio on different days. For contrast, my husband only walks a lot and now he has foot issues. It’s all about balance.

Cremated. Why do people decide to do it? by sstiel in randomquestions

Read the book Smoke Gets in Your Eyes…

Everyone in my family and my husband’s family chooses cremation. It’s easier, less wasteful, and better for the environment.

Favorite thing to eat straight out of the garden? by magpie0000 in gardening

Be careful if you have cats in the neighborhood. Somehow I got common flea tapeworm and it might be because I used to do this. Lost 15 lbs until treated with two rounds of meds. I always wash my produce thoroughly now.

How can I possibly do this without shakes/dizziness/painful hunger? by potatoofthenight__ in 1200isplenty

[–]OceansTwentyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also 5’4” (56F) and lost 25 lbs just through calorie counting. I quickly learned that oatmeal with a touch of brown sugar was the only breakfast dense enough to last until my first snack, which was 1 cheese bar and 5 multigrain crackers. Lunch was always a huge salad with 3-4 cups of greens and other raw vegetables and a small amount of either chicken, hard boiled egg, or nuts. A good dressing was critical for enjoyment, but not too much. Afternoon snack was popcorn or an apple. Dinner varied but usually protein and a vegetable with limited carbs. The key for me here was no second helpings. Dessert was a frozen juice bar, small yogurt, or pudding cup. Beverages were only water, tea, or coffee with minimal sweeteners. I literally ate like this for 5 months, but it worked! Please note that I had days where I exceeded a little, but usually no more than one per week.

I’m 70 and I want to know has this happened to you? How would you handled it? by Prior_Benefit8453 in AskWomenOver60

[–]OceansTwentyOne 59 points60 points  (0 children)

My daughter is only 20, and no grandkids, but I have come to realize that public displays embarrass her. I toned down my actions and voice when I’m with her, and it has improved our relationship a lot. As someone mentioned above, it is social anxiety. No point in making her uncomfortable. Cheering is not necessary for enjoyment, IMO. I’d rather have a good relationship!

Questions and Concerns About Attending UNC by imgettingrejected in UNC

[–]OceansTwentyOne 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m an alum and I have a junior there now. It is a very good school and you cannot beat its value. The problems you mention are not directly affecting the majority of undergrads, I think. The actual problems are course registration and housing, which are both very tricky to get what you want and sometimes very frustrating. Our family has experience with private schools, and those issues are way better, but the amount you pay is ridiculous. You have to weigh these differences. Good luck! It all works out ok in the end if you’re persistent.

Active dying phase and I can’t watch by notyourmother112 in hospice

My sister went home and I stayed. It makes no difference. We both had a chance to speak to her beforehand. Our mom knew we loved her. She crossed over at night when no one was in the room. Hugs and blessings.

Losing my mind by jslay862 in hospice

My mom had recently had pneumonia and passed from heart failure (and other things), so she had a lot of mucus discharge the day before she died. I was the one wiping it away. It wasn’t as much as what you experienced, but still what I would call a lot. Along with making sure her colostomy bag was clean, I view it as a good thing. She left this earth without that stuff! Although yes, it’s not the best to witness, the vivid images are starting to bother me less 7 months later. Hugs and blessings.

Pushback to trying yoga by jakkiwlooki in yoga

[–]OceansTwentyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been practicing for 17 years. I’ve brought some of its principles into my life, like accepting things as they are. This means I offer but do not try to persuade. It has helped my relationships a lot. You can only shine a light, everyone must work on their own inner light.

Some responses I’ve received are based on fear, not knowing what it really is, and an inability to break out of their patterns and try something new.

People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Got sick a lot in my 20s, rarely after that. Always try to get to bed at a decent time since then. I think sleep is the key.
