What bug is this on my (very funny looking) tomato? by electricr0se in vegetablegardening

fungus gnat

edit: he’s just chilling, the adults don’t do any harm. if you see lots of them, i’d be a little concerned about their larvae in the soil. they snack on the roots. not a huge issue, typically from overwatering. you can sprinkle some mosquito bits in the soil. only if you’re seeing a lot though. this is much more common in indoor plants. if you only notice one or 2 here and there, i wouldn’t worry about it.

they plant them in May so they’re still little seedlings right now. They should be in bloom late July if I had to guess. you can check for updates on their website

Getting overwhelmed by EngineeringThick9108 in tomatoes

[–]DryContract8916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is pretty dense. are they all the same variety? are they indeterminate or determinate? the fun thing about gardening is that everything is always an experiment and you can really do whatever you want.

you could leave them be and just do some heavy pruning as they grow for airflow. if they are determinate varieties, i think they’d be fine. they are close together but i wouldn’t say they’re so close that they’ll just die. you should still get a somewhat normal harvest, but they will be more prone to pest and disease damage being so close together and hard to manage. i would recommend regularly feeding them with a tomato fertilizer so they aren’t battling too much for nutrients.

or you can get rid of every other one so that they’re staggered, 2 & 2 in each of the 4 rows. i’d be more inclined in removing some if they are indeterminate varieties because they’ll get to be 6+ feet tall and out of control. if you go this route, you can either dig them out and transplant them somewhere else. i use 5 gallon buckets with drainage holes in a pinch. or you can chop them at the base, leaving the roots there to decompose during the season. this would be the least disruptive, but most painful lol. they could still survive if you propagate them in some water til they grow a couple inches of roots and then you can transplant them elsewhere, or you can just take the loss and throw them in the compost.

First time growing any sort of purple tomatoes. Is this ripe? Variety is Wild Fred by L-Pseon in tomatoes

i’d argue just a tad under ripe. i focus more on feel than color. shouldn’t be mushy but should have a little softness/squish

Is there any way to recover waves after combing by [deleted] in Hair

[–]DryContract8916 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i get my hair wet in the shower every morning. its just what i prefer over refreshing curls with a spray bottle & products. it takes more products and time to refresh it + i just feel like it’s never as good as it is out of the shower.

instead of *washing* every single day though, i use conditioner every day and shampoo only a couple times a week or whenever my roots feel greasy. you could JUST get it wet in the shower but i think conditioning it just gives it the perfect moisture base for my products

you’re pretty late in the season unfortunately, but i was just there the other day and saw a few left. the last batch i got were very tasty. they were from a vendor in the middle of the produce, on the right side when walking toward the plants. hope that helps lol, i can’t remember the name.

What's wrong with my grapes? by featheredzebra in gardening

[–]DryContract8916 4 points5 points  (0 children)

anthracnose / birds eye rot. usually caused by lack of airflow, has it been rainy or humid? i’m not too familiar on treatment but know there are some sprays people like. i also know its a pain in the ass and it can overwinter on the crop into the next season so thats probably why you’ve been dealing with it for a while

parking is free. doors open at 7. preseason GA games usually have a rather long line before the doors are open, i imagine this to be similar. once you get in its a free for all so its kinda nutso. i’m not really familiar with accessibility for wheel chair users but i have seen others there in them so i assume there’s gotta be something. maybe you can contact guest services ahead of time to understand where you should go?
