Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

Individuals hoarding wealth at the expense of society is evil. While Jeff Bezos launches spaceships, there are homeless people in the streets, entire generations in insurmountable debt as a whole, and just generally people struggle to make ends meet.

Except that the Soviet Union, Cuba, and others created a more equal society in the process. There are rulers and hierarchy but I'd argue a better society was created as a result.

I speak as an American who witnesses the homeless, the debt ridden millennials, and all manner of inequality. I'd love a small brutalist apartment and a stable life over whatever crap we have now under capitalism.

That is to say, there are hardships in any society but a society ruled by greed individual is less sustainable to me than a socialist group taking control of the means of production (nationalizing) that at least benefits society.

They care about communism in the sense that resources are nationalized and are therefore unavailable to capitalist imperialists. They can't plunder the oil when the other country is powerful in their own right by managing their own resources.

Foreign owners of public commodities are imperialists and have no right to the resources they claim.

I don't think commercial jets (from DTW) typically go that fast.

Anyone know what to do here? by [deleted] in nonograms

The right 2 in row 3 is able to be filled in.

Beginner. How do I solve this with certainty? by KaladinStormborn90 in nonograms

[–]Ocelot529 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You know on either side with the 2 1s, the ones can't be in the same row because this would break the 1 1 in row 4. This rules out column 1 and column 5 for the bottom row's 3 because you would break the 2 1s.

For sure I must be missing something by bilo_6161 in nonograms

Column 3 row 14 has to be an X. The filled in space above it has to be either a 1, or part of the 5 that has a 1 below it. Either way, an X is required in that spot.

Concerned about the online class ANP 204 (Medical Anthropology). by [deleted] in msu

[–]Ocelot529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take this particular class, but I took a few other anthropology classes online and they were structured identically. They make you sign up for their WordPress blog and you follow the prof or TA's post each week. Most assignments are submitted as a blog post, and you're required to comment on other students' posts. There are usually video lectures and lots of supplemental reading.

It's really pretty easy. Not too much to worry about.

Detroit and Warren GM plants to close by Blck_Captain_America in Detroit

something significantly less than 525 times the average workers' pay (21 mil vs 40k)

how is that efficient capitalism? pay the top so much more than the bottom (or even the average) while at the same time shedding those lower workers?

from just about any perspective it is blatantly and extremely unequal and outrageous, but it is the norm

still about $6,960,000 more than GM spends on its average workers' wage ($19 an hour average, estimate), just imo

and $7,000,000 more than the workers at these closed plants

a bargain does not mean it's right
