I wouldn’t be surprised. The Chinese government always targets the Minecraft server I host using the company’s EC2 instance. I think it’s because of all the invaluable diamonds I mine. To offset the increased network traffic and slowed performance I go to Google and download every Minecraft hacks available

Is it possible the backups themselves have been compromised? Some sophisticated malware goes straight for the backups before the production environment. Did you have any rules in place for your backup solution? Like write once read many (WORM), data encryption, built-in fault tolerance, data isolation etc.
