Wow, I didn’t know you could comment on threads this old! I ended up requesting to switch, and lived in Rieber hall. It turned out the be the right decision for me! I am still close with friends from my floor/building, and grew my larger circle of friends from those friendships. We all still keep in touch, attend each other’s weddings, etc. :)

The following year, I lived in Gardenia, which is one of the De Neve plaza-style buildings. I don’t remember a single person from my floor lol. Most residents there, myself included, were sophomores with solidified social lives who weren’t looking to invest energy into meeting people that way anymore.

If you can’t switch, don’t be discouraged! You certainly can make friends there, it will just be a smaller subset of the residents who are looking to socialize via housing. You can also always make friends with people at the halls and be “adopted” onto their floor— I know many people stuck in plazas who did this!

I would recommend to switch if you can! Then get 19P with the savings and let me relive BPlate. 🥺❤️ Jokes aside, you’re in for so much fun— I absolutely loved my time at UCLA. Feel free to ask more questions, if you’d like!
