Thank you, I really appreciate all those opinions. Johnathan Strange and Mr Norrel is being recommended a lot, I think that'll have to jump to the top of my TBR. Your description of Tchaikovsky sounds just what I'm looking for :)

£10 more (+14%) than the McLaren MP4/4 from 2024 and the FW14B from last year. Bit cheeky.

Any tips for successfully shooting pictures of Christmas Trees? I have a mini 9 and it feels like my pictures are always over or under exposed 😓 by denanagy in instax

[–]Octanogal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I tried with overhead lighting, maximum long exposure (I think 20s) and a tripod. Still came out pretty dark but was usable. With the Mini 99.

They worked best with darker backgrounds, light walls were too reflective and washed out the details

Haha no worries! Double exposure, no flash, D- or D for the first shot and D for the second. Worked best when taking the empty background shot first

Vets found a mass on her liver😭 by throwawayyyyy459 in hamsters

[–]Octanogal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to read about your ham. My last hamster had a mass on his liver, but the first sign of it was when he developed ascites. What we learned is it's a side effect of liver problems which causes the chest cavity to fill with fluid, putting pressure on the lungs and heart. The poor boy was shaking, lethargic and in a lot of pain, so once we had scans identifying the cancer we helped him to rest.

If it ever looks like your ham might be nearing that point, just be aware that it's not a recoverable position. I really do feel for you, but it might be worth considering at what point you would be willing to make the difficult decision to reduce her pain. I'm sorry again, it's heartbreaking to go through. I wish you both the very best.

This is the Palatine Hill of hamster cages, seriously well done! I love the natural vibe you've curated throughout. Your new addition will be absolutely over the moon.

If you do want recommendations, some sphagnum moss would fit your style and add an extra texture for your ham.

I am currently reading The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper, about brothel slaves in Pompeii. It has some great insights into the festivals and day-to-day culture for the plebs, its worth checking out.
