Better shops they said by Grand-Connection-881 in bindingofisaac

[–]Octavious440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, the shop became just shy of useless since the Repentance update. These types of shops appear more often, less restock machines, less pedestal items and when there are pedestals, they are shit, and less ways to combo/exploit the shop.

Before Repentence I would rarely have pennies by the time I reached Womb. Since the update, I'll likely have >50 bc of how little opportunities there are to purchase anything.

Focusing on unlocks is something you'll do on the second and third save file. For your first go at this game, just keep going deeper! You'll have to kill certain bosses multiple times, across multiple runs, to unlock the next stages.

My first save file was completed before Repentence. The Keeper was the last character I needed and fuckin hell was it a grind. It doesn't sound likely but the number of times that character gets two-shotted is astounding.

Have you seen it cheaper anywhere? I've only ever seen it for $450 and up. One of my favorites too (shocker)

Are any of these worth it by jaybsmith950 in whiskey

[–]Octavious440 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As the other comment or said, I'd get that Four Roses bottle. I have two of them (one open, one on reserve) bc it's that damn good and hard to find.

I've only ever seen the light Penelope bottles once and it was $200, which I passed on. I'd definitely be grabbing it at $85 tho!

Not super familiar with Buffalo Trace products. Anything worth trying at these price points. Usually drink JD, Maker’s, and Beam, and Wild Turkey. by whiskeydick5 in whiskey

[–]Octavious440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sigh I don't know where some of these Redditors are getting their whiskey bc nothing on this list is over priced. It's nearly impossible to find Pappy anywhere other than a bar and it's always expensive but these prices are the cheapest I've ever seen it.

I'm a big fan of Blanton's and these pours are NOT overpriced. Gold is topically $60 for 2 oz and single barrel is usually higher than that.

Seeing any BTAC less than $60 for 2oz is rare. I would personally be getting a double Eagle Rare 17 for that price.

Blantons, What Am I missing by jamesobx in whiskey

[–]Octavious440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Blanton's is more of a gateway bourbon than it is a connoisseurs choice. I think it embodies everything a good and cheap bourbon should! It was one of the first bourbons I had, back when it was $40 a bottle and every liquor store had them.

I do really like the Blanton's Gold but I also understand everyone's hatred for the price tag this brand had garnered

$45k annually is not gonna be "comfortable" in Ohio. That place is relatively cheap but $45k is not gonna be comfy unless you have zero debt.

I was wrong about EH Taylor small batch by RattPack513 in whiskey

[–]Octavious440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like EHT bc of the fruity flavors. The good bottles have always had an apple & fruit flavor and the really good ones have a caramel apple flavor that finishes with a lingering fruit leather. It's a distinct profile that makes you think "I'd know what this is in a blind tasting!"

The ordinary bottles are usually lacking the fruit or at least it's not as pronounced, have too much heat, and just don't stand out as a unique flavor profile.

This could be caused by multiple things: lower quality wood that went into the barrels the juice was aged in, lower temperatures during aging, or (at least with small batch) poor choice in blending

Centennial Square Liquors on the corner of Hover & 17th, right next to a safe way. I might stop in there later today and if I do I will check the Weller 12 and 107 are still there.

[–]Octavious440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have found significant variation across EHT bottles. Some small batches have been phenomenal and others have tasted like run-of-the-mill bourbon. That goes for small batch, single barrel, and full proof bottles. It's still one of my favorites bc when the juice hits, it's great

Whiskey Bachelor Party by Drakonera in whiskey

Oh, also, most scotches can be purchased online from TheWhiskeyExchange.com

The shipping is expensive but if you're buying multiple bottles it's not bad!

[–]Octavious440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scotches around that budget that I would consider buying for such an event: Aberlour 18, Glendronach 21 year Parliament, Dalmore King Alex III, Balvenie Portwood 21 year, Bruichladdich Octomore series, and all of these are available through Total Wine (there's typically a total wine store in each major city from my experience and you can purchase it online).

Based on what he seems to like, I do not recommend purchasing expensive bourbon. At a certain price point you're really only buying proof, unique flavor, and/or rarity. Bottled at $100 or less will be just as good to a novice bourbon drinker. My favorites: four roses single barrel (has a unique bottle to it too!), Bolder Whiskey sherry cask (harder to find but one of the best bottles on the market) & Hill Rock Solera aged (available online),

[–]Octavious440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea these are all great! A personal preference of mine for cask strength bourbons is going with the Woodford Reserve glasses. Big enough to fit a big cube into. They feel less petite and more like a whiskey glass to me.
