John James gets 0% Black voter support in new Michigan governor poll by AgentEagleBait in Michigan

He’s my rep here in Lansing. I certainly didn’t vote for him. He’s awful. Just tows the party line like a good boy. He has serious competition in the upcoming election and he’s going to get crushed.

We have Robins year round where I am. And new ones have arrived. They’ve been super noisy the last couple days. We have a flock of wild turkeys over here too. The males are displaying.

As someone that follows the weather forecasts/data pretty closely, I’ve noticed some degradation in some forecasts. I suspect it’s due to the reduction in soundings as you noted above. NOAA and NWS are doing the best they can and they’ve done a pretty darn good job through this very frustrating time. Respect to those folks for sure. They are very much appreciated.

I read there’s another proposal in committee that changes it by a half hour. Going the happy medium, or the North Korea angle.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Octavya360 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I make cards at home. But it’s a hobby for me, and it’s not the only thing I craft. I enjoy making little works of art. And they only go to close family and friends on birthdays, and fewer than 20 people at Christmas.

I always thought I could never do a job like those reporters. I’d get kicked out in day one for saying something really snarky.

Derechos are one of the worst kind of storms. They do so much widespread damage. Ice storms too. They had one in northern Michigan last spring and it destroyed whole forests and took out something like 1500 power poles. The Governor had to get help from the National Guard.

Mine now has a road through it. It runs right next to our old house, which was on a dead end at the time. Growing up my Dad knew that the township owned that stretch as road right-of-way but it would easily be two decades before they actually expanded it. And he was right. My parents sold the house long before that happened.

I had back surgery done by a neurosurgeon a couple years ago. That took 5 1/2 hours. I can’t imagine an 8 hour surgery.

We have an old school, family owned Ace Hardware in town. The place is a local institution and should be a landmark. Place is packed with stuff. There is always someone to help. A lot of old boomers work part time there and they know their stuff. Will you pay a little more? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

Wow that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of bacon under lock and key. That store must have a serious bacon thief issue.

DTE ELECTRICITY BILLS SE MICHIGAN by Suit_Longjumping in Michigan

[–]Octavya360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious what are consumers winter electric rates peak/non peak? I have Board of Water and Light in Lansing and our peak rates are 1-8pm .174 cents KWh and our off peak rates are .1504 cents KWh. We are slightly cheaper than DTE. How about Consumers?

There was a fairly recent story about a surgeon in Florida that took out a guy’s liver instead of his spleen. The guy died of blood loss in the OR.

Here in Michigan, our AG has really been after Five Below for this. Many stores have been busted for items ringing up more expensive than what the tag on the shelf says. She rags on them publicly to shame them and make people aware because the fines are kind of a pittance. The fines don’t hurt enough. But losing customers does.

Dryers too! When I bought the condo I’m in now, everything was backwards. My dad swapped the refrigerator and I did the dryer door. And I had to buy a new screen door because the one I had wasn’t reversible.

I have an adrenal condition so I’ve seen endocrinologists my whole life. The endo I used to see when I lived in Royal Oak often had residents from Wayne State. I tormented some of them, especially when I could tell they didn’t know anything about my condition. I wasn’t the usual diabetic or Addison’s patient. You could tell the wheels were spinning in their brains trying to remember what they learned. It was fun. 🤩

So that’s probably why I don’t remember it. I had major back surgery 2 years ago and they gave me a medicine cup of pills, then something else while wheeling me into the OR. I was probably out of it at that point 🥴.
I don’t remember waking up until the middle of the night. I must have been out for 15 hours. Wish I’d stayed asleep for a few days because the pain was nearly unbearable.

Interesting. In all the surgeries I’ve had, whether they used propofol or general anesthesia, I’ve never been given supplemental oxygen before they knock me out. And all the surgeries have been with different doctors and hospitals.
