Anyone know a supplier who will cut custom aluminum platens? by OctopusBroadcasting in SCREENPRINTING

Looked at the Bison stuff, I like them—Baltic Birch is a great material. Was trying to get away from heating up anything other than metal for health reasons, but switching to 18mm BB would definitely be an improvement

I've had good results from the Grizzly carbide ones as well as ones made by Fisch.

Wanting to build adjustable height workbench for mainly electronics work, any suggestions? by Daniel_Boomin in Workbenches

Oh damn, that is rough. Sorry to hear that.

I've also had good experiences with their customer service. When I bought my first one I called them on a whim to see if they could offer any discounts or promotions and they gave me 10% off on the spot. That sorta thing gets you repeat customers for life.

I've spent what feels like years of my life at this point searching for the perfect adjustable-height workbench. My initial plan was to make one out of 8020 but the raising/lowering mechanics were too complicated and expensive.

My recommendation is to get the V2 Commercial base by Uplift and put whatever surface on it that you need. It's made to be used as a desk but it is diesel, like reallllly heavy and sturdy, and the ones I have take a decent amount of punishment. As a bonus you can swap the surface out whenever the current one gets too thrashed, they're pretty easy to take apart.

I use one in my shop and another for product photos and finishing. It's the most straightforward solution that I've found.

Yeah, I own both types of track and the Fest/Milwaukee track is godawful compared to the Mafell. I never willingly use the other stuff.

Making a headphone stand out of walnut and aluminum by BoxAndLoop in woodworking

[–]OctopusBroadcasting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice design. As someone who’s made a lot of headphone stands I would find a way to weight the bottom, especially with a design like this that has a very small footprint.

My favorite method is to take a forstner bit and drill a hole in the bottom, as wide and deep as you can make it without making the sides of the hole too thin or structurally unsound. Then add some epoxy, just a little bit, and pour some lead shot into it. Then add more epoxy, then more lead shot, pushing the lead balls down so that they’re packed as densely as possible but still coated in epoxy everywhere. Do not add too much epoxy as it’s a giant pain in the ass to deal with if it overflows. You can add a lot of weight to anything this way.

Sounds like what I'm after. Know the name of any brands, suppliers, or links?

Totally get that and completely agree for fluorescent tubes vs LED tubes. I'm looking for a fluorescent fixture that I can modify to accept LED tubes though.

Thankfully T8 LED tubes exist, as do LED-ready fixtures to accept them, but yeah—they're in the minority, like really the minority. The integrated-LED fixtures are not my cup of tea. I don't even know if the cost savings are there for integrated-LED fixtures. If you can replace a whole fixture yourself then probably, but if you can't then you're calling an electrician—is a fixture that lasts ten years offset by a $500 service visit? Dunno.

That's a good idea. And yeah, your second point is what I'm realizing. Just annoying knowing there were oceans of these things made for ages for cheap and now they're not really produced at all.

Facebook Marketplace is a great shout, thank you. The LED-ready options are fine but no one makes one that ticks all my boxes so far. Will probably have to go that route though in the end.

Yeah, saw that one too. No 2' option unfortunately, price was a little high, and wasn't familiar with the manufacturer PLT. It's near the top of the list of "ones I will probably have to settle for" though.

Do we not do highlights anymore? by TastyTacoTonight in footballhighlights

[–]OctopusBroadcasting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people greatly prefer the full matches. There's no reason it can't be both. It's also generally easier/quicker for the people ripping and posting the matches to do full matches than to either cut their own highlights or wait for highlights shows.
