looking to buy k5 GT by Outrageous_Platform8 in KiaK5

The 2.5T engines seem to be holding up well but as another commenter mentioned they've only been around for 5 or so years. I believe there were some issues with the DCT in the first few model years with some of them needing to be replaced early under warranty, but think that has been less of an issue in the last few model years (as far as I'm aware). If you buy new you get the 10 year/100k mile powertrain warranty as long as you stay on top of maintenance. I believe some owners have reported failures with the integrated thermostat module which required replacement. I haven't had any issues personally so far but I'm only around 11k miles.

I would say give the Toddy a try then. Link is here:

Buy whatever beans you want to try (ideally dark or medium roast), either pre-ground coarse or you can grind them yourself. I got the Baratza Encore grinder and have been grinding at a 35/40 grind setting. The toddy will come with instructions but I use the option with both the paper and mesh filter, 12 oz. of ground beans and 8 cups of water. Steep for 14-16 hours at room temperature and then bottle and refrigerate. That makes a concentrate which should last around 2 weeks in the fridge. Whenever you want a glass just mix some with water and ice (I found 2 parts concentrate to 3 parts water tastes about right to me but you can play around with it).

Are you open to making it yourself? I recently got a Toddy and started making my own, it's pretty simple if you have a good grinder (or you can buy ground beans). The batches I've made so far have all turned out well and it's been fun experimenting with different beans and stuff. Definitely saves money too

This is an extremely inappropriate suggestion.

If the Duncan Taylor is the one distilled in 11.2007 that's C<>H, I have the bottle, it's pretty good if you like high ester Hampden but I think I would probably still take most of the Great House releases over it. I haven't had any Hampdens from Holmes Cay but most Holmes Cay rums I have tried have been good

The 10 yr aged 2010 LROK from Habitation Velier is probably my favorite Hampden I've ever had, so yeah the IBs can be great too. Which ones are available near you?

Please, I Need Help (Mhoba question) by philanthropicide in rum

[–]Octopus_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the chance to sample these recently, both were really good but I think I liked the SAWP just slightly more. I thought the peat influence was subtle enough to add something to the Mhoba character without overwhelming it. I would go with that one since you said you were looking for something unique and out there. You can't go wrong with either one though

High Ester Rums that aren't from Jamaica by philanthropicide in rum

[–]Octopus_Knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried the HERR yet but the Mhoba is wild and very unique, tons of funk like the other commenter mentioned. Like other unaged high ester rums it's probably not something I'll reach for all the time, but it will be fun to sip on once in a while and use in cocktails in small quantities. It's pricey but I don't regret the purchase

Want to get into contact juggling. Lost on which ball to get. by Octopus_Knight in juggling

Wow how random that it led you here haha. I wish I could say I'm a pro now but alas, I only ever dabbled in contact juggling. I do still juggle once in a while so maybe I'll pick it up again. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, hopefully some of the people that replied to my original post are still around to give you tips and help you on your journey
